We ate here on a Wednesday evening as a table of 4. We had booked a table but unfortunately the staff were preoccupied with serving drinkers/diners sitting in the garden. The service was incredibly bad - ages to take order (20 minutes), ages for food to arrive (45 minutes), forgetting to bring steak knife for steak (despite being asked twice) no table check, no sauces (the waiter forgot) no drinks order taken after drinks finished. The food was average. The chicken Caesar salad was as far removed from a Caesar salad as you can get (who has ever heard of onions, peppers and a poached egg on a Caesar salad?). The steak was very tough and the gammon was thin and grey. As no steak knife arrived the steak was inedible. We couldn't tell the waiting staff as they had vanished! The fish and chips was good however. This was a birthday meal and we were all left disappointed. For local pub grub this place isn't cheap and did not live up to expectations.

We enjoyed the two course set menu and have nothing but praise for our choices.Starters were good and we were even envious of those who opted for the curried cauliflower soup in July, but mains were even better. The chicken supreme was a generous portion, beautifully cooked but the vegetables really made the dish. The fish pie too was a great success and really arrived piping hot.Desserts looked good but we would have required much bigger appetites.
