Seriously relaxed dining with a family golfing centre to boot. Named after the local area on which the pub sits with a nod to historic alcoholic beverages of old. Fresh food, fine wines, local hand crafted ales from the Hertford Brewery and ethical coffee
Me and hubby always come here for the best steak in ware . Weâve not been for a while , so we thought weâd treat ourselves . We were really looking forward to a lovely steak , which are usually delicious here. Theyâve obviously changed their meat supplier, or chef, or standards. It was a let down . Tiny, thin steak, and The usually lovely sauces that always tasted so delicious, tasted like they came out of a packet . The starter was lovely , and so was the waitress, but overall we were quite disappointed. Sort it out Kings Mead, you used to be so much better than this. Hi evangelinei2014,i am very sorry to hear that the steak you had on your visit was not up to our usual standard, we take feedback like this very seriously and if told on the day we would have rectified it immediately to ensure you left happy. If anything on any future visits is not up to standard please do let a duty manager know as we can then feedback to our supplier. i am happy to hear the rest of your experience was great and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

My friend had the lamb burger with halloumi and tzaikki. The chips were unreal, coleslaw was so tasty tooWill definitely return Thank you for taking the time to post a review and photos. Our burgers really have to be tried to be believed! Itâs really nice for the chefs to have all their hard work appreciated, I will pass on your compliments

Visited at lunch time on a bank holiday, pub was not very busy. Went up to order food but the lady behind the bar seemed not very clued up on the menu and did not realise that there was a sandwich menu too. I ordered our food and drinks and was told the credit card machine was down and she would come over with our drinks and the credit card machine. She then turned up with the machine but no drinks so I paid. The drinks then took an age to appear and I had to go and chase. The food took even longer and yet again had to be chased. The chicken and bacon baguettes were poor filled with mayo and little chicken or bacon. Weirdly served with coleslaw so even more mayo. The fries they were served with were fine . The chicken strips were poor too but the sweet potato fries were nice. No complaint about the potato with beans. Since returning home I have read some of the managers response to negative reviews and they are nothing short of shocking. I expect mine will be similarly dismissed which says it all. We will not be returning, there are better places to eat in the village.Thank you for your review. I would like to clarify for other TripAdvisorâs the facts of your visit. We were in fact very busy bank holiday Monday, so much so that we had severally people waiting for tables throughout the day. The chicken strips are a childrenâs meal priced at £5 so the portion size is clearly aimed at children. Our baguettes are cooked fresh daily and filled up! You chased your meal after 11 minutes. Your food arrived after 14minutes from the time it was ordered. How this constitutes as slow service is beyond me.I reply to every review we receive, over 170 reviews. We have been awarded a trip advisor certificate of excellence which are not handed out easily. I will always reply honestly and candidly. Unfortunately sometimes people feel the need to sit at a keyboard and type nonsense about our business and staff and I will always protect both of those things rigorously and with the utmost honesty. The baguettes you seem to be so offfended by cost £6 and are served with fries and coleslaw (stated on the menu) I believe you would be hard pushed to find them priced more reasonably elsewhere. The fact that you have taken time to review a baguette on multiple review sites suggests yoour a tough man to please. One would sincerely hope you do not return as I feel you would be disappointed even if I served you a core de boeuf for £3 and had it at your table in 4 minutes.Best regardsCraig
