I dined with two other family members in September, and we enjoyed this restaurant very much. We all had seafood dishes which were fresh and wonderful. Mine was three pieces of seafood served over a butter-rich black (squid ink?) pasta and it was amazing! Anyone visiting this island should try this restaurant.

We went to Principal Bistro for lunch and were delighted. The service is very friendly, the food and the wine are delicious and the place is relaxing. The lunch menu is 12,50 Euro for three courses which is really affordable for this perfect lunch. We really would like to fome back. Thank you.Dear Mr & Mrs Kahanni, thank you for having taken time to leave such a review to all the team. Cooking with a view... fusion cuisine that combines elements of the Portuguese and Asian culinary traditions, cooked within view of diners in a relaxed yet refined space, in downtown Funchal. Located at the corner opposite the famous Hotel The Vine, Boho
On a fairly unassuming street corner, this small restaurant is doing something different. Elegant and unusual food, prepared before your eyes (the kitchen is 'in' the dining area). Prices are higher than the average in surrounding restaurants, but there's a very good reason for that. This is definitely not average food. Great service too.

The restaurant "Latada do Doutor" it's placed in the heart of the Funchal city. A place dedicated to the love of the well eating and drinking, with a lovely backyard/terrace, surrounded with a plantation of aromatic and medicinal herbs where the costumers
We tried to find this restaurant last year, but geography has never been my strong point, and we failed miserably. We were actually just having a stroll and stumbled upon it on our return to Madeira this year. We booked fairly last minute through The Fork and thought that if it wasn't to our liking, we'd just have a main course, a drink and move on. Anyway, lovely staff greeted us and the covered courtyard away from the hustle and bustle of the City and the badgering of the waiting staff on Rua Santa Maria was a delight. We ended up sampling different wines (surrounded by birdsong and their home garden of herbs) and having a really lovely 3 course meal. Great care had been taken with the flavours and, although we had fish and pork for our main courses, they were both more inventive / creative than the standard fare. For example, my fish came on a bed of flavoured potatoes (fennel seed / Rosemary?) with roasted onions and toasted flaked almonds, plus a stuffed tomato - a very good sized portion, but I ate the lot. Please don't let the hidden location deter you, it's actually quite central once you know where it's hidden and becomes an all the more attractive proposition because of that. If you head up from the Marina road (Avenida do Mar) passing Theo's Bazar Cafe and the Golden Gate on your right, cross the road, and head straight up Avenida Zarco, there's the entrance to a medical practice and to the restaurant almost opposite you when you reach the next junction, and Bob's your Uncle - not off the beaten track at all, although it will feel like that when you get there. The Restaurant "Latada do Doutor" and the entire staff thank you for your excellent evaluation. It was a pleasure to serve you. We hope to see you soon. Best regards.
