I come to Bon Vivant whenever I am in Karuizawa and never had a bad experience. It's one of the main restaurants on the so called "Gourmet Road" in Karuizawa but they focus less on promotion so the place is less touristy and rather unpretentious for a fine dining restaurant. They always incorporate local, seasonal ingredients in the recipies. You can chose between a la carte and set courses at various price points and they also have a private room for bigger groups. Our family also loves the home made syrups. All in all, one of our favorite places in Karuizawa.

It's a small restaurant, about 10 seats, and a chef and the very nice lady who serve us.Not expensive, good food, very warm and family atmosphere. The desert(grilled apple with icecream), which was free, was very good, and the chef spent time to prepare it. we enjoyed so much, and sure to visit again.

Strongly recommended by our hotel owner, this tiny restaurant did not fail in elevating our taste buds with their impeccably prepared dishes. We had a pork salad,and 3 grilled dishes - barracuda, chicken leg and pork butt. All done perfectly and the chicken came with a very unique side dish of grated radish, preserved kumquat and tomatoes which was just refreshing and a delightful palate cleanser! The chef and his beautiful wife both speak wonderful Mandarin so we had a good time conversing with them! And don't forget to order their house specialty for dessert - cheese cake! Rich and creamy, it was yums!

The dishes were delicious! All dishes use mushroom as part of the ingredients. I like the beef especially! The chef picks mushrooms in the mountain and he learnt cooking in Tokyo. The couples are nice and kind! I will definitely visit again if I come again!

Managed to chance upon this quaint little restaurant on the second level. We were looking for a breakfast place in the morning at about 11am and thought some french toast would be good. I ordered the french toast with ice pudding set which was excellent as the french toast was fragrant and goes exceptionally well with the pudding. My partner ordered the cheese with french toast set. We were pleased with the food and would definitely recommend anyone who is looking for a good brekkie at Kyukaruizawa ginza!

I love to eat at Suju (there is this original restaurant in Karuizawa, and a couple branches in Tokyo, including across from Tokyo Station). The food is so fresh and tasty. If you like to eat vegetable-, tofu- and beans-oriented dishes, with fish and other fresh ingredients, this is the place. They do wonderful things with miso (not only soup, but as a sauce for vegetables and for fish).I always take home some of their products -- not only miso, but beans. Staff is helpful in English and atmosphere is lovely. Also centrally located near the shopping street, so it's easy to find.
