Find out what French restaurants to try in Western Cape. South Africa’s most popular tourist destination offers the urban thrills of Cape Town, its adjacent wine country and an aura of the rich political history of South Africa. The Overberg's perfect whale-watching perches provide excitement of a different nature. The Garden Route's lakes and forests and the Klein Karoo's ostrich-farming towns and vineyards present another take on the Cape. For extra kicks, try bungee jumping or cage-diving among Great Whites.

Twelve years of history, moments and memories, in one brand new location. Welcome to the restaurant home of South African chef Reuben Riffel!
The Reuben story is well known across Africa. He grew up in a township near Franschhoek and through hard work and help he has become something of a " rock-star" chef with media appearances and several restaurants. Good hearty helpings combine with wonderfully presented dishes. We found the restaurant accoustics something of a challenge with the building unhelpful for quiet conversation . Typically friendly South African welcome .

Mediterranean characteristics embody the contemporary restaurant with the 'old town' deli offering cheese platters, gifts, freshly home baked breads and pastries daily. In the evenings the restaurant transforms, creating a premier dining experience where
We were visiting in the low season, so it was very quiet in the restaurant. The lady serving us though wasn't all that interested, a bit like you were in a run of the mill road restaurant. The dinner offer is good value for money and wine pairing quite good, but the food isn't quite to the high standard set by other restaurants in the same street (admittedly at a higher price). The lady serving us didn't really know how to introduce the dishes to us, and didn't really seem to care; again very different from other Franschhoek restaurants. To round off the mediocre experience: when I paid the bill with credit card, I added a tip (suggested on the slip). The lady executed the payment and then gave me another bill with the obligatory fixed service charge on top...Good dayWe are sorry to hear about your mediocre experience. Please send us a email to [email protected] to get more information as the waiters cannot add a service charge the bill.Regards,

Capital Cape colonial country cooking at its finest!
This is truly a hidden Gem in Hout bay. i took my fiance for supper at this fine restaurant last night and her remarks were : we must go there again. Superb Service, great Ambiance not crowded at all. I left there very happy. The meat was great. The soft music and the dimming of the lights also added to the good feel. Quentin, thank you for your hospitality and the excellent food.

In the Heart of Knysna, enjoy French Cuisine by French Chefs in a cosy, relaxed but intimate place. Only 30 seats, so booking is essential
The entire experience with Rèmy and Cathy was fantastic. They engaged us throughout the evening, along with the very friendly wait staff. We had the baked Camembert with roasted apples and walnuts, served in filo pastry, followed by duck confit with cranberry sauce. The rest of their menu caters for all tastes, with their specialty being Cote de bouef. The wine selection compliments the menu, and is fairly priced.

âLe Coin Françaisâ embodies the essence of the Franschhoek valley by reflecting the heritage, elegant French cuisine and wine of the local area. Multiple award-winning Chef de cuisine and owner, Darren Badenhorst (previously executive chef of The Restaura
In re-looking at the reviews, pretty sure the chef will point out we donât get what theyâre about. Thatâs true... must get past all the excellent raves and read some of the less positives. At times when I have a less than optimal experience, I wonât write a review... wondering if others have done same. In the interest of at least clearly sharing our experience, will explain what didnât click with us - others have different tastes. First, it clearly is a âtastingsâ menu. I donât think the most petite person would leave feeling full. Roasted chicken âmain courseâ appeared to be a thigh piece, stuffed, cut into 2. Many of the dishes were bold choices of flavors. Was surprised that the âpalate cleanserâ had so many flavors. Almost seemed like they were trying too hard to be innovative. Most disappointing was the service. It would appear that they try to synchronize up delivery of each course across all the tables regardless of whether youâre doing the 6 or 8 course. Now Iâm ok with leisure dining, but 1 hour after weâd arrived weâd only gotten bread and our first tasting. If your a bit adventurous and looking for a unique experience, perhaps this works for you. The chef will say the food is inspired by South African cuisine, but Iâd say the service might be more comparable to a French restaurant. Good day DarrenL639, Thank you for joining us at Le coin Francais. You are quite correct, it is a "tasting menu".We do indeed synchronize our courses so as to ensure the most smooth and timed experience for our diners. We do offer a unique experience. We are in fact not inspired by South African cuisine, and, as you correctly identified, are comparable to a French restaurant. Hence our name, Le coin Francais, directly translated to, "The French Corner". I advise that in the future, so as to manage expectations and better enjoy your experience-where ever that may be, that you do relevant research into the establishment you decide to dine at so as to fully enjoy the offering they provide and satisfy your personal requirements fully too.Thank you for the feedback and taking the time review us, we appreciate all constructive criticism.Kindest regards, Darren Badenhorst

We decided to catch a quick lunch on our way home and what a lovely suprise we got at Orangerie at Le Lude. The picturesque setting with stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains and beautifully prepared meals makes this a definite must for all visiting Franschhoek.

Enjoyed a tasting menu lunch today. Great and prompt service (except a bit slow for main course to arrive). Loved the exceptional artistic presentations, and the levels and complexities of taste and texture. Microscopic green placements enhanced the visual. Three of us had the small tasting and I had the larger menu ( which was not too much foodâ just right). Staff could not have been nicer and the course explanationT
