We had been here twice on a previous holiday so were keen to return as we had good memories. You absolutely have to reserve a table here, ideally a day or two before. We went for lunch and sat inside as it was a bit drizzly. The manager/waiter/all round busy man was nothing but lovely to us, but others find his manner brusque, but I think that is because he is so incredibly busy. They primarily serve pizzas. The menu is huge and caters for everyone. However, they also have daily specials involving meat and vegetables usually, plus a good value lunch special whereby a pizza comes with a salad and a coffee and the special comes with a dessert and a coffee. I had an anchovy and tuna pizza and they kindly substituted the creme fraiche for a tomato base. The pizza base was thin and cooked to perfection. My husband had a chicken dish with mash and salad. Our desserts were chocolate mousse with the set menu, but there are 3 other daily desserts you can choose from and one looked amazing, a kind of chocolate and mango Mille feuille (excuse spelling). We returned a couple of days later before heading off to the airport and were very happy again. It opened at 12.15 and by 12.25 it was 'complet' (fully booked). Every restaurant in Salies needs a reservation btw.

We tried several times to go there & they were either not open or booked out. We finally managed for lunch on our last day although they were full & we had to come back an hour and a half later. The wait was worthwhile as the local food produced was magnificent. We started with a shared plate of grande ardoise followed by a burger de beef for her & la blonde du Boucher for me.(beef burger & steak from the local blonde cattle). All washed down with a local red. Proprietors are very friendly & speak good English.

Great place to impress friends and family with terrific (yet affordable) French country dining. During the summers, outdoor dining on the patio is an experience not to be missed. Food and presentation is consistently outstanding. Portions are generous, good value. Always busy so reserve in advance.

Restaurant situe a deux pas de la place du bayaa, cuisine de produits frais et locaux.
A quiet and neat restaurant at the town's center. Great flavours and textures. It was nice to see they had a reduced menu for kids. Worth a visit!

Amazing friendly service. Very welcoming for a group of 8 with two infants. Not sure the other guests were even though well behaved. We all had two courses plus the dessert. Flavours incredible, beautifully presented. Thank you so much! Definitely recommend. Best meal of our stay. Recommend booking to reserve a table outside.

We stopped for lunch in the magnificent medieval town of Sauveterre de Bearn. We found L'Auberge du Cheval Blanc open in the main square. It's a nice casual restaurant with good service and seemed busy with locals. However our lunch wasn't great. I had the menu du jour which was an okay charcuterie plate, a very uninspired paella du maison, and an okay gateau basque. I talked my husband into the more expensive menu after which I was sorry. He started with Coquille St Jacques (prepared and presented in an amateur manner), magret de canard (just okay) , and a nice dessert of russe). Based on this experience I sadly would not go back or recommend.

Don't be put off by the frontage of the building, when you go inside and through to the back. The "Terasse" is a small dining area which on a summers evening is wonderful. The menu although fairly small all food is cooked fresh and has a typical Béarnaise flavour. All the staff are efficient well presented and very friendly. The food is complimented by a good wine list with some very good Basque wines.

What a find - open only two weeks earlier this is so lovely. A beautiful old town building lovingly restored to a restaurant with an outdoorsy feel. Sitting in the sunshine experiencing the lunch menu with great service and friendly owner was a real treat in a simply wonderful little village with a sense of history and views to cherish - a must stop!

Were holidaying in Biarritz so ate here on a drive up the Pyrenees. We stopped due to the time of day - if Biarritz restaurants close for periods of time - we assumed it would be the same away from commercialised areas. There were cars outside so we pulled up -me, my husband and 13 mth oldWe went in - the lady at the bar (no English - us no French) mimicked did we want food and beckoned us to the table. No menu for lunch - just set â¬14 pp Soup: this to Irish people is our stew. A huge bowl (think bread mixing bowl), and the ladle. Very tasty - homemade! Followed by a jambon - not the Irish deli crap... Again home made - riddled with cheese! (I thought that was the mains...)Then came a half roast chicken with potatoes, peas and lardons. Falling off the bone. And lastly the ice cream! We got coffee and vanilla - both lovely. All of this accompanied by a bottle of wine and all just a total of 28â¬They were so good to our little man! And he ate something from every course but mostly lived the mains of chicken and peas! Good people, good service and great value and food. We weren't taken back by the set no choice lunch after being in saumur a few yrs ago. We've seen a lot of pizzas, pastas and sandwiches in Biarritz for lunch so this home, authentic cooking was well received!!!This place isn't trying to be modern chic or Michelin star... It's sooooo much better!

A bar as much as a restaurant, though the food is generally excellent if the menu is a little limited. The produce is local, seasonal and the cooking can't be faulted. The atmosphere is genuinely French - despite it being popular with local British residents and regular visitors. The service is extremely friendly. It's location is another strong point so it's worth finding in this lovely old town, to watch the world go by or to have a decent French meal.
