In a warm and cozy decor, Fabrice Le Chef's Cantine invites you to sit at tables on benches. As in the canteen of old, you will eat dishes that « homemade » ! In the kitchen, find a map to the Southwest accents at the crossroads between tradition and crea

Came across yet another excellent restaurant in this beautiful, quiet ( where is everybody??) village of Dagland in the Dordogne. The owners were so charming, kind and friendly A super, sophisticated meal served by a helpful young man and thoroughly enjoyed by our group of six. A perfect evening. Merci a tous xx

This little local restaurant has proved to be a boon in a rural area where there are but a few eating places. It's run by Stephanie and Pierrot with occasional extra help in the summer. The restaurant was established with the help of the Commune of Marminiac in an old building in the centre of the village. Indoors has a smart contemporary look and there is a large sun-shaded terrace in front. Since it opened a couple of years ago, we have had dinner here several times on our own or with friends or family. It has become very popular with locals [French and ex-pats] and with summer visitors. It's a good idea to book given they do only 25 covers. The set lunch menu is a bargain and there is a special traditional local dish on Saturday lunchtimes, advertised in advance. The evening menu has a number of choices based mainly around local produce and typical dishes. There is a good short wine list, mostly Cahors and Bergerac. Check for opening times.

This little auberge, for me, sums up the great cuisine of France. We visited this auberge following the positive comments on trip advisor. Previous guests were not wrong! Tonight's meal was probably one of the most enjoyable and tastiest meals that I have ever enjoyed in France. Although the menu offers only regional produce........don't expect pizza or burgers......the quality of the food was exceptional. The duck, lamb and steak are to be particularly recommended and before our main meal, we were offered a turine of potage(soup) with never ending baskets of crusty local bread. The ambience is calm and relaxed, with only one waitress who is very pleasant and charming, so we were not flustered or hurried to eat our meal. Finally the bill - less than â¬90 for a family of four plus dessert and drinks. We shall most definitely return.

Cazals is a lovely village (700 years old?) which, if it was in England's Cotswolds, would be swamped by summer visitors with their cameras. But, although there are some similarities between Cazals and Cotswold villages - the honey-coloured stone of the buildings, for example - this village is not as 'precious' about itself as some of those picture-book villages in more densely-populated England. Nor, importantly, is it as expensive to eat out, here. The Auberge de la Place has a dining room (empty when we were there) and a simple outside eating area (became very busy from about 20.00 onwards), across the road from the front door of the restaurant. The friendly, welcoming staff (mostly family?) get used to carrying trays to the tables in la Place. We were there in 2017 when the set menu (entrée, plat, Rocamadour goat cheese and dessert was 25 euros). In 2019, it still is 25 euros and it remains excellent value for money. It is a no-frills meal, but, one which is copious and honest. The starter of raviole with a sauce of ceps was lovely. So was the faux filet with goat cheese sauce and the grilled lamb with garlic. Each dish came with delicious home-made frites that were hard to resist, despite doctor's orders. No other vegetables, but, that did not matter. A delicious strawberry bavarois and a choux bun with cream and chocolate sauce rounded the meal off. The half-litre carafe of very drinkable wine at 6 euros was enjoyable too.On a warm July evening, it was a pleasure to eat at the Auberge de la Place.

A superb meal. Taste, presentation and service all excellent. One of our party is gluten free and the dishes were altered to meet her needs. The three of us all had different dishes. The desserts were spectacular and if I ever come this way again would exchange my fromage for a dessert. Very good value for the quality and gave good advice on wine choice. Iâve no hesitation in recommending Le Saint Martial.

This is a typical, honest French restaurant like it should be. You are warmly received and the food is of high quality: a buffet with fresh dishes as starter, a choice of 2 for the main course (we took the veal "pot au feu" and were very pleased), nice, ripe cheese and a desert of surprising good icecream. And this all for a really modest price. An example for the many fake "tourist restaurants" with microwave prepared food for a stiff price!

We were just looking for a coffee at lunchtime and looked into this restaurant. It looked so welcoming that we went inside. It had a lovely atmosphere and we were made very welcome. However when we saw the food on the other tables we decided to have something to eat. I had a beautiful soupe de poisson and my husband some beautiful prawns with garlic. A very good dessert menu as well - which my husband could not resist. The waiter was excellent and very helpful and the chef came out from the kitchen to see if everything was ok. We shall return - of course - with friends for a three meal course. There is plenty of choice. Just one other thing, it is important to me - the toilet was spotless!!
