Reviews on French food in Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil. Brazil's former capital is renowned for its African-influenced cuisine, music and architecture. Known as "the Capital of Joy," because of its exuberant week-long Carnaval celebrations, Salvador brims with contemporary music and art amid architecture that has gone untouched since the 17th century.

This restaurant is part of the Casa do Amarelindo hotel. We were staying in the hotel and decided to eat here with a few friends who were staying in a different hotel. We had a very enjoyable dinner for 6 people.I ordered the moqueca which turned out to be delicious (it's a north-eastern Brazilian speciality and highly recommended!) and throughout our group everyone was happy with their food. We all ordered starters, plus a couple of bottles of wine and overall I think the bill was just over £100 which seemed very reasonable.Service was excellent - the staff seem fairly young and inexperienced but did a good job. The manager suggested that I tip the waiter at the end of the meal which I never appreciate - if service has been good I will give a tip without being hassled for it.If you're staying in the hotel, or elsewhere in Pelourinho, I would recommend a dinner here.Dear James, thank you very much for your positive feedback about the meal you had in our restaurant with your friends. We´re very happy to know that you were fully satisfied by the quality of the food served at your table, by the service provided by our waiters team, and by the price you paid. We confirm that Moqueca is emblematic of Salvador´s gastronomy; the one we prepare in our restaurant is made with fish filets (no bones) and shrimps and has all the typical side orders of a classic moqueca: rice, farofa and pirão. The only small change we have is regarding the use of the ingredient that makes the identity of the Bahia food: dendê oil (in fact raw palm tree oil). In traditional and family cooking, they may use generously this ingredient but, for our moqueca, we have chosen to have a much more balanced use of the dendê oil in order to make our moqueca lighter. We have to deeply apologize for the discomfort you felt regarding tips. In first place we need to clarify that this is absolutely not the politics of the hotel´s management, but a personal and clumsy initiative of the receptionist on duty that night. Service in Brazil is optional although being part of the waiter salary like in the US; its charge (10%) is indicated on the bill and you´re free to pay it or not in case of bad service; additional tipping is of course possible depending of the degree of satisfaction, but be sure that our staff is oriented to never hassle our customers for tipping. Looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back when visiting Salvador again, best regards, Didier and Gilles.

We all started w the house salad which we enjoyed. I and a friend shared the Moqueta with clams, shrimp, fish, and bell peppers. Many of the plates serve two.

I went to this restaurant expecting great service, food and wine.To start, a poor couvert, bread, butter, horrible chicken fois pate and a ok chutney, expensive 15 per person.A bottle of wine costs 3 to 4 times the price in a wine store, totally unacceptable.I asked a magret de canard with cara pure. Cara is a tipe of mandioc. The magret was overcooked and the pure had truffles oil. terrible mixture, Cara does not match with truffles. I sent it back and didn't received any feedback about it. The next plate I ordered, had to be cancelled 15 minutes later due to a lack of ingredients: tuesday night, empty restaurant and lack of ingredients? I decided no to eat. When I tried my girlfriend Gnocchi... again terrible disapointment... absolutelly overcooked. Like a pure...Well, in the end, the view is the only good thing you'll find in this place. If you want a French restaurant, try another city, because my beloved Salvador, dos not have one that is worth a visit. To finish, the maitre, wearing a suit, was smilling at me like, this guy sucks... So.... don't try this one.Other great options in Salvador:JAPANESE: SOHO, at Marina Bahia.MEAT: 496 GRILL, close to Marina Bahia.LOCAL SPECIALTIES: PARAÍSO TROPICAL, the famous, cozy and trendy... fantastic. There's also a cheaper option: DONANA, 2 locations: BROTAS and VILAS DO ATLANTICO, simple place, but fantastic food!!! Try a moqueca de camarão(shrimp) or ensopado de camarão.SUNSET HAPPY HOUR: AQUA, at Marina Bahia...Have fun in Salvador!!!!

The owner is always there and he is such a courteous person. They have a variety of delicious dishes. If you like beef I`d recommend you to ask for "Filé do Juarez". Great place to have dinner, lounge ambiance and classy decoration. For professional or private dinners. If you order meat, the cooking point is the French way and not the brazilian way (be aware of that). Service is quite fast and efficient. Personnel seems to enjoy doing the service. I recommend
