Charming restaurant. Conveniently located on the the road to Minerve with easy parking. Artistically and colourfully decorated 18th century Auberge. The menu du jour was simple, well prepared and the fruits/vegetables tasted very fresh.Very affordable family atmosphere. Particularly enjoyed the creme brulee!

Fancy a traditional French meal in a relaxed homely atmosphere/ If so this might suit you. The Assiette l'Gourmande is a 34-seat informal restaurant run by a very welcoming chef and his wife. It is located at the roadside in the village of Courniou Les Grottes about 100mtrs from the voie verte on the Mazamet to Saint-Pons road. The voie verte, formerly a mineral railway, is a long-distance walking/cycling trail through the mountainous Parc Naturel Regional du Haut- Languedoc, and consequently this is a perfect stopping-off point for walkers and cyclists as well as drivers. There is outdoor and indoor seating so no worries if you are muddy or sweaty. The atmoshere inside the restaurant is friendly and relaxed. Denis, the chef, cooking pot in hand containing half a pig's head, is rightly proud of his cooking and during entertained the diners with a detailed demonstration of how he prepared the cassoulet to his own recipe. Worth taking a break for!

We were touring the Cathar country and happened on this great restaurant by chance. My wife had a filet de Saint Pierre with an celeriac purees sauce and I had local dishes. The chef makes his own bougnettes which is a local pork pate that is fried and served on a salad. It was delicious and I've never had it elsewhere in France in the last 67 years of restaurant dining. His house tripe are superb: very light, lean and silky smooth. We shared a 1/4 Saint Chinian which came from not too far away. Dessert was a creme Catalan with chataignes. Service was friendly. The restaurant is quaint without being a tourist trap. Most of the the clientele were locals. Good value and good food. Whitebeard83

A traditional French restaurant serving an identical menu for lunch and dinner. Very good value. Freshly cooked. Attentive service. Well-worth a visit if in the area. We had melon / goat cheese salad to start, then 2x steak followed by a selection desserts. Overall very nice. Would certainly visit again.

We really didn't study the menu, just focused on tapas and thought that would make a change. Firstly the greeting and service from 'maitre d' was very lack lustre, happily the guy who actually served us was pleasant and knew how to smile unlike his boss. Now when we really looked at the menu, how do you make a dinner out from crepes, tartines and the a poor selection of tapas - more tartine type things, 3 sorts of brochettes, Spanish omelette, No Patatas Bravas!! Ok we should have gone to Spain! I think there were 3 options of 'proper' main courses, we had the gambas and they were a good size, excellent value. Tapas of, peppers and bread, cheese and bread, sardine rilette and bread - good job the bread was really good! and a duck brochettes - fine. But the lettuce wasn't washed, not just gritty, actually earth brown and the chocolate molleux for desert was poor. So has potential, just a strange menu combination, certainly some good things but the welcome (lack of) was sufficient to make us not want to return. We are so sorry for the lettuce ! I recommended to the Chef to take care about that ! Thank you.Regarding our menu, it's maybe strange for you but we didn't want to "impose" a menu with starter - main course - dessert. The most of time, our customers are coming for just one drink, then they decide to eat a salad for example, then they ask for tapas or brochettes and following a dessert....In Le Bistronome, you are completely free ! You come for 30' or you stay for many hours ;-) Maybe the Boss doesn't speak English very well....do not hesitate to come back again ! Never stay on a bad experience ;-) Did you try the "Tartine Gourmande" ?!

We were taken here by our French neighbours and were not disappointed. It is a very traditional, local restaurant with the meats cooked on a spit. In fact donât come here if you donât like meat as the cold meat selection served with home made pâtes are the best in the area.

Chanced upon this delightful little place while driving through the Haut-Languedoc and stopped off for lunch. Very glad we did. A warm welcome, simple but excellent food, good wine - and from the terrace where we were sitting the most amazing view you could imagine, south-east across the mountains all the way to the Pic St Loup (above Montpellier) and the Mont St.Clair of Sete. In short, a perfect place for lunch on a fine sunny day.Would be ideal to stop over here for a day or two if they offered rooms. Alas, our friendly waiter explained that they'd only taken over the Auberge a few months ago, and the previous owners left the guest-rooms in such poor condition that they couldn't currently afford to rehabilitate them. But one day, perhaps....Dear Madam and dear Sir.A big thanks from the Cabaretou team and we hope to welcome you again. GratefullyChristian

This is a very down to earth, simple cafe/bar/restaurant in Saint Pons, which offers a 13 euro lunch menu â starter consists of a buffet of various salads, pate and saucisson. The main course on the very quiet Monday we visited was a duck burger served with penne pasta â it was very tasty. A simple cheese course was followed by home-made îles flottantes or Chocolate Mousse. Nothing pretentious... just good, honest food, served with a smile from the friendly waitress.

Have been meaning to eat here for sometime, had heard a couple of good reports, but had been put off on the summer by the unattractive outdoor eating area - exposed to traffic etc. Intended to go during the winter and sit inside, but again the style did not appeal - looks cold and basic, lacking in ambience when you look in. It is a pity these first impressions put us off because the meal was faultless and delicious and we will return soon. Loved the nems, the fish, the bread, the steak, the duck etc etc! Only the desert carte was a bit lacking - mostly just glaces. And once inside the austere cafe decor is forgotten by good food and company.
