In town shopping for a party and needed pit stop. Good vibe here, got an outside table for four, service quick and helpful. Good range on menu. We had fish, croque monsieur, chevre salad and more. Couple of pitchers of house Chardonnay, a bottle of St Emilio, fruit drink for driver and some great puds inc a calvados and sorbet floater. I think less than â¬20 each. Affable folk on adjacent tables but lady who served us was great. Happy to recommend.

Visited this restaurant at a lunchtime and was very sadly disappointed. Is a help-yourself all-you-can-eat type place. Very little clearly Italian cuisine apart from pizzas. Waitress spend ages chatting to a nearby group who she clearly knew instead of attending to waiting customers. Unimpressed.

Very hungry, needed to eat on way home. Monday evening, very few places open. The menu choice was traditional and good, I really fancied a salad and some frites. What a great salad, I had the recommended salad of the day, with frites. The salad was terrific, sadly I cannot remember its name, but it had gizzards, fois fras, rillettes, fried potatoes, tomato, egg, toast and a fine dressing. Very well worth it and the service was very friendly! Would recommend!

Recommended by the owners of a gite we were staying in as being the place for lunch, advising booking which we did. Chez Agnes is ONLY open at lunchtimes. Two set menus, we chose the 14.50 euro. two starters, main course, cheese board, desert, bottle of red wine and coffee! Choice of starters and deserts and choice of two mains. The menu changes daily so you could be tempted to return within the week!A wonderful experience. A little English spoken but we prefer to speak French.Excellent value for money thoroughly recommend you visit to enjoy typical French food.

The last time we visited The Swan was more than 5 years ago, and we declared "never again!". The food was not good, the service abysmal, and the ambience non-existent. However, friends told us that it had new owners, and was now worth a visit. We're very glad we took their advice. Five of us visited on a very hot day for lunch, and sat on the terrace under a shady canopy, overlooking a very enticing swimming pool! There is only a choice of two mains (both were good) but the starters and dessert buffet was fairly extensive, catering for most tastes. Our waitress invited us to return to the buffet for seconds for both of those courses, but we we all too full. Each person is offered 25ml of wine, beer or soft drink to accompany their meal, and you can help yourself to lots of coffee. All that for 12.50 euros per person. Fabulous value for money. We won't be waiting another 5 years before returning!

We stumbled upon Le Lion d'Or when meeting friends there. First, there is a private parking area so you don't have to find a parking place on the busy streets of St. Hillarie. We were drawn to the lovely, spacious and elegant dining room, but soon realized we were in a bit over our head. The sweet server suggested we could dine in the "bistro," a more casual, austere area with a prixe fix menu, and it turned out great! The server was very patient as we attempted to translate the menu. We were a group of 6 and every one of us enjoyed our meals, every course. (My starter of salmon terrine was delicious!) The chef used good ingredients and presented the food well. They have a wine of the day and it was very good too. The place is clean and attractive, the people friendly and attentive, a very good find!

We have a small house near St Hilaire requiring extensive DIY and so we like to pamper ourselves at the Ardoise during our "bricolage" visits. The lovely and extremely hard-working couple who run this restaurant always make us, and our dog, extremely welcome. A wonderful but very reasonably-priced French menu is combined with an absolutely stunningly designed interior of this very stylish restaurant, and it is a delight to be able to sit on the new terrasse during the summer. We will be back!! On sera de retour !! (Note that the restaurant is not open on Sundays or Mondays, as is often the case in France.)
