Le Central is a neighborhood bistro that offers modern versions of French classics using local produce and fresh ingredients. Our menu and wine list focus on affordable, eclectic and unique offerings.
We ate dinner here on a Monday night, a normally slow restaurant night. For most of the evening wee were the only people in Le Central. They did a reasonable take-out business. Very nice French inspired menu with reasonable prices. Same for the wine list. The simple house salad used the freshest greens and just the right amount of dressing. It was excellent. The grilled rack of lamb was perfectly prepared and a very generous portion. Now for the 'lows." Based on reviews I was looking forward to the Moroccan Chicken. Again, perfectly cooked but the spice blend (perhaps Raz el Hanout) had an odd taste, a bit musty. Not sure why. It made the dish just OK. The real low was dessert. The "Warm Apple Tart with Vanilla Gelato" was a square of puff pastry covered with thin slices of apple. It arrive flat and burned and really iinedible. Perhaps it was frozen and on a slow night they just did not give it enough time to defrost. To their credit, when this was pointed out to the waitress she took it to the cook and they took it off the bill. We will probably be back, but we will probably pass on dessert.

The menu is a combination of American and classic French and probably has been the same for years ( as has the pine panel decor right out of the fifties). But the food is well prepared and reasonably priced in this throwback restaurant. Entrees come with salad (good house dressing), potato, and family style veggies so hold off on the earlier course.

At Bouchard Restaurant, a warm relaxed ambiance and gracious welcome signals your arrival. The restaurant serves fine French cuisine in a 1785 Georgian-style house.
This is clearly the best restaurant in Newport and it's not even close. We ate at Castle Hill the night before and this place outshines them easily. The service is impeccable and the food equally outstanding. Marco, the table Captain was attentive throughout the night as was Nick who did a fabulous job as well. We had three different appetizers and they were all incredible, as were our main courses of salmon and pork tenderloin. If you are in Newport and looking for a 5 star dining experience this is your place. Trust me, you are not going to find a better dining experience than this in Newport.p.s. They also gave us free champagne to celebrate our anniversary.
