Indifferent food, really, cauliflower purée doesn't go with tuna mi-cuit. Gambas à la plancha were overcooked. When I mentioned that the carafe bin de pays charentais was unpleasant I was told that I probably didn't understand dry white wine. For goodness sake ! I was running a hotel and several pubs before they were born and although English, I've lived in France for 15 years.

What a wonderful lunch we had. The restaurant decor is fantastic and the food is exquisite. Starting with the Pigs Tail (yes it is and itâs excellent) all the way through desert the entire culinary experience rivals any restaurant in NY, Paris or London. We recommend this to everyone!

Fish and chips English style here in Pontaillac, Royan. Great little restaurant opposite the beach open all day and into the evening every day except Wednesdays. Madame speaks excellent English. Very reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit. Also French style food served.

This is a very unusual place, located in the middle of an industrial estate and housed in what looks like an industrial unit, but what it lacks in location it more than makes up for in the quality of the food and the service. I had the 'assiette de boucher' which comprised a large entrecote and a large brochette of rump streak served with home made fries and a sauce of your choice. As the main dish was so large we didn't have room for dessert, but what we saw being served looked very tempting. Our main course cost â¬16.50 but most people seemed to be eating off the â¬14.50 three course menu, which had plenty of choice and included a starter buffet. Towards the end of the lunch period the chef (and I believe the owner) came and spoke to all the diners - a nice touch, he also served some of the late-comers. The restaurant is only open for lunch. So if you're looking for place for a romantic lunch in beautiful surrounding don't come here, but if your hungry and appreciate good food well served at very reasonable prices, La Gargote will take some beating

Nice restaurant (or take it away) with a supermarket concept and fresh homemade food. Choose your starter, main and dessert from the shelve. Put them in your basket. Go to the cashier for water and wine and pay your bill. After you finished your starter, your main course is served hot and steaming. And you can finish it off with a coffee. A servant will help you understand the system from start to end. The wine is good, but not cheap. Bon appétit!

We ate here as a group of four adults and four children. The menu was limited, brought to us on a chalk board it appeared to only have mains. The children's menu consisted of steak haché or breaded chicken. Both of these were ordered and were fine. The adults at the table had steak which was very good but pricey at â¬21, fish which again was nice at rather cheap at â¬12.50 and the pasta arribiatta which was a large portion but not at all spicy, this too was only â¬12.50.All the food was eaten and enjoyed, it was just a little run of the mill.We had two bottles of wine, again there was no wine list we were just told what they had which made ordering a little awkward and as we had to ask the price. All in all it is a good neighborhood restaurant just lacking a little je ne sais quoi. The bill came to â¬200 for us all.

This restaurant is not in the main hub of town but right opposite the cathedral. We were warmly greeted and chose the set menu (available in the evening). Home made bread and a fish paste were brought to the table as a free mini starter. The starters were fab as were the mains, tasty and presented to a high standard. I didn't have a dessert but those who did said it was delicious. Not only is the service and food great here but also the value for money, we had 2 aperitifs, 2 glasses of wine, large bottle of water, 1x2 course meal and 2x3 course meals plus coffees with homemade biscuits. Total of 74 euros. Would definitely eat here again!

On an ambient sunny Sunday, we decided to join with the locals and take lunch in this Marina-side eaterie. The position was great, the weather was warm, there was a buzz about the place, so we ordered our food, and sat back to contemplate our lunch. We waited.... And waited...and waited. Eventually a harassed waiter approached us to let us know that our wine was free, and that our food would be 'cinq minutes'. Well cinq minutes came and went, the novelty of the marina-side ambience wore thin, and the waiter returned to confirm our order...a sure sign that it had been forgotten. When my Moules arrived, they were average and on the cool side of Luke warm. My Frites tasted like they had been cooked the previous Tuesday, my wife's Spaghetti Carbonara was awful ... A lump of congealed spaghetti with a tasteless drying sauce. The experience was very poor so we left without leaving any sort of tip. I could have forgiven the service issue if the food had been worth waiting an hour for. As it was, in hindsight, I wouldn't have waited 10 minutes for such a second rate meal. So that's why it gets 2 stars from me.
