We have eaten at hundreds of these type of restaurants. This ranks with the best except for the smell of cigarette smoke while you're in or outside of the pub. The positives: friendly staff who speak a little English, close to several hotels, serve food earlier in the day(you don't have to wait until 7:00pm as you do in the other town restaurant's), good bar type food(hamburgers, French fries, etc.), fair prices, quick service. The negatives: just that the locals stand outside the entrance to smoke their cigarettes and the smoke filters into the pub. Bottom line- I would eat there again if in town.

We tried to get in for lunch one day but were turned away from a bustling restaurant because they stop serving at 13.30. So a few days later we arrived in good time but it was a religious holiday so the restaurant was almost empty. This made for a slightly charmless atmosphere but the food more than made up for it. Very good cooking and some inventive combinations, all very tasty and well presented. Service a bit unsmiling but very efficient.Nothing to do with the hotel, but worth noting that the Lac is currently drained for repair work and very unappealing!

A new restaurant, much neededin the area, opened Christmas 2013, with a pleasing ambience but more importantly, an excellent chef. I've had the luck to go to the opening, then the first night of dining, a St Valentine's dinner, and two subsequent dinners with (grown up) family. The first night the food was excellent and the whole thing wonderfully bordering on chaotic but by February all was running smoothly and the special dinner was really delicious. For every day dining, there is an à la carte menu with choices of cold or hot entrées varying in price from â¬9 for Terrine de Volaille to â¬14 for Escalope de foie gras chaud "compota Vinhà o" au raisin, main courses of fish and meat priced between â¬14 and â¬16.50, plus choices of cheeses and desserts to follow. There is a simple "Menu Formule" at â¬24 or a Menu "Plaisirs" at â¬32 both of which offer a varied choice, all nicely presented - and excellently cooked (see photos). For midi (which I have never had - don't eat lunch!) there is a Menu du Jour at â¬14 which includes café and a quarter carafe of wine. There is also a children's menu at â¬12. Once every so often they do a themed meal - such as recently "Moules Frîtes". There is a good, though not extensive, wine list at sensible prices. Outside there is a terrace which will be available for dining come the summer weather. Inside, it's one large room but with an area at the front along the windows, slightly separated. The owners and staff are welcoming and the ambiance is friendly and pleasant. It's a very good place to go on a whim or with a reservation; at lunchtime, note, reservation is essential. It's closed Saturday lunchtime and Sunday evening. Being local I know the owners, but this has not affected my opinion - though if I didn't like the place, it's true - I wouldn't have written a review - at all!Le Trianon d'Alésia seats about 50 people, and can be used for private functions. The establishment is opening as a hotel sometime in July - that's all I know...

We came here thinking we'd grab pizzas for a simple dinner, but decided to upgrade to the 3-course set menu for 30 euros since it sounded attractive. The starter was a crab terrine with artichokes, which went down well, but the main course, a beef Burgundy, was something else. While the portions looked big, the meat was streaked with gristle - unsure of whether it's connective tissue or fat, at any rate, inedible - and the dessert, which was an in-house raspberry cake and the waiter assured us was light, turned out to be a rather dense cheesecake with a mere sprinkling of fruit in it.The table wines in the menu had 2 grades, the regular stuff and the "superior" quality. We chose the latter, and it still tasted like two-buck chuck. The restaurant had a sports bar attached, so we could hear the noise coming through from the other section. We were seated in the far corner of the restaurant as we were told it was a quiet spot, but then a group of 2 families was shortly seated next to us, and we couldn't hear ourselves thinking over all their noise. The service here was mixed; the young waiter was super attentive and polite, but the other two ladies seemed highly uninterested in the diners.Overall, the best part of the meal was the young waiter's service. The food quality was disappointing and the ambiance wasn't very pleasant. It's the only restaurant in the village, but I'd suggest driving to another village for something else.

We booked this restaurant, after reading the many good reviews, by telephone the day before. We drove from Paris arriving at 1.30pm for the "second sitting". The lady who seated us at the toilet door (when the restaurant was almost empty at that stage) was unsmiling and sullen. The sort of attitude that gives french people a bad name.As the menu of the day included boudin noir as a main course (which is not our cup of tea), we chose the a la carte menu, having two salads and two main courses and an excuse for a cheese plate. The salads were OK but certainly nothing special, the main courses very ordinary and the cheese plate was pathetic. You would get better one at a roadside Routier. The wine was OK but expensive for what it was. This meal turned out to be the worst and most expensive one we had in over 6 weeks travelling in France, Italy and Spain. That coupled with the bad feeling that was conveyed to us from the maitresse d'hotel left a very bad taste in our mouths. We just can't understand the good reviews that have been lavished upon this establishment.

Simple, classic French auberge dining room with large fireplace at one end.Food absolutely delicious, the starter with girolles and foire gras de canard was superb. The panna cotta with apricots and raspberries was delicious and the beef in between was beautifully cooked. We chose a St Emilion Grande Cru which was slightly sharp and I feel not quite as good as it should have been for the price (â¬69).All in all a very pleasant evening with friends (for whom this their local, lucky things!)

On our way to Abbaye Fontenay, we stopped at the village of Flavigny sur Ozerain. It is listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France and it did not disappoint! Known for its anise flavored candy first produced by the monks, it is a very quaint village with beautiful vistas and an ancient crypt. We had a wonderful meal outdoors at the Restaurant de l'Abbaye. Very traditional and delicious luncheon offerings in a beautiful setting. A caveat: you need to be mindful of eating well before 2pm. All restaurants close for their luncheon hour at 2 and don't reopen until dinner. Arriving at 1:45 may not get you a table, lunch or even a glass of wine.

If you are concerned about food miles then this place is a dream as this is local food from local people.Just opposite the church, La Grange had a queue when we arrived but it was good humoured. The plat du jour was lamb with vegetables and with only that to eat no one would go away hungry. Crisp bright salads, fresh bread, wines, syrop de this and syrop de that - all produced nearby. The meat was perfectly cooked and very tender. The atmosphere was of a country fete and the sun shone outside. Who could ask for more?A real find run by lovely, charming, patient people.
