Bistrot d'Orsay has been situated in picturesque Collins Street for 20 years, in an area regarded as the âParis Endâ. The interior is instantly evocative of the French capital with trompe lâoeil ceiling and a towering vintage French poster adorning the di
We have waited ages to return and now know why. Beautiful ambiance, friendly, warm and professional French staff. Delicious food and as you would expect a great wine list. This really like being back in Paris for us. We shared the charcuterie platter (note the Chicken Liver pate was sublime). I went for the lamb special while the man did the beef. We unashamedly shared the pear tarte tatin and a lovely dessert wine. Could not have been happier

We were a party of 14 for dinner with a pre-arranged (smaller) menu. For my starter I ate the Ora king salmon mariné gravlax with fennel and beetroot salad and walnut mayonnaise. Fine salmon, delicately pickled baby beetroot and subtle mayonnaise. Splendidly balanced and delicious. For mains I had Gold band snapper, with a safron risotto galette and asparagus fumet. The flavours on the plate were to die for - and more pearls of flavour than listed on the menu. Fish skin crusted and seasoned perfectly. We who ordered this all coo-ed throughout the eating.Chou profiterole for desert, with hazlenut praliné cream, yuzu, and praliné ice-cream. Unexpected orange accents throughout. Refined and delicious.Vegetarian colleague had fixed starter and main and choice of desert. Whilst the usual suspects were there (asparagus followed by gnocchi), the treatments, flavours and plating were anything but. One of our diners is allergic to olive oil and that was catered for.An excellent wine list and attentive service.Very slow delivery of the first course - 60 minutes from ordering to first plates; we all went through two rounds of sliced baguettes and butter - makes this a 4 rather than 5 star rating. Be warned: steep flight of stairs down from ground-floor entrance and no lift.Highly recommended. I will return.

Back in Melbourne for a visit, we definitely had to go eat at the Roule Galette again. Our meals were as fabulous as in the previous year. :-) Perfectly prepared galettes (= the savoury variety made with buckwheat) and crepes (= the sweet ones), friendly and prompt service, pleasant atmosphere. Merci beaucoup!

Hell of the North offers casual dining and drinking coupled with service that is informed and friendly. We are open on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from 5pm for dinner and for lunch & dinner on Saturday & Sunday from midday. Group bookings are accepted
As older foodies, we've seen trends come and go, and one that seems to be coming again is French food, about which I have mixed feelings, as it can be heavy and has more delicate flavours than we've become used to with Asian-fusion/Modern Australian food. However, Hell of the North did a lovely job. My pork loin was beautifully cooked, though the sauce diable was a little gentle in flavour. The pommes frites side was just right. Not too chunky, but not straw-like either. And the brussel sprouts side was tasty too. My husband's Tarte Tatin special was near perfection. We also liked the wine choices, and the staff's knowledge in advising us. The ambience is cosy, and not too noisy. The prices are reasonable for the quality.

We enjoyed a very delicious brunch here this morning, from a small but interesting menu. The lunch & dinner menus also looked very interesting and I hope to get back here to explore the food offering further.Service was excellent, from the moment we entered until we left. My coffee was a step above the norm too.Well priced and a fascinating space, well worth the visit.
