When the summer months get very hot in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat in the mountains is the traditional escape destination, normally 10 degrees cooler than HCMc. Le Rabelais Restaurant is situated in the Dalat Palace Hotel, a lavish colonial residence surrounded by lovely gardens. The restaurant decor carries through with an opulent colonial feel, chandeliers and art work, and full silver service and pianist playing Erik Satie. The food was heavily French influenced with a matching wine list. Definitely in the 5 star range for Vietnam, & pretty special for a birthday or an anniversary.

We enjoyed two delicious dinners here. The first night we tried the prix fixe menu, a great bargain, but so much food! The second night, my favorite dish was the Artichoke soup. The chef is Vietnamese, but has trained with a European chef and makes excellent western dishes as well as the Asian selections.

This is located in a beautiful building, a former postal building that's been converted. It's luxurious and comfortable. But overhyped. The dessert was very hard, almost like it was frozen. The main was nice enough. Good soup and salad. But hardly mind blowing. It's very expensive here as it's supposed to be a luxury treat. Staff were a bit cold and stuffy and even though it was very quiet (only 1 other table in use ) it was difficult to get their attention. My opinion is this wouldn't enhance your Da Lat trip

Small cosy bar, friendly staff and a great selection of wines which are reasonably priced. We also had a lovely cheese board. We got a free cork key ring made by the staff!Would definitely recommend

Thanks for the Chef and the team with an authentic dining present. We visited the restaurant twice in two days with Vietnamese friends. The ambience was delightful, with live guitar music, and original artworks on every wall. The food was excellent, with both western and Vietnamese dishes. We enjoyed Vietnamese dishes one night and great salmon, pumpkin soup, and garlic bread the next. Vo Trinh Bien, the owner, is a prolific artist, and a generous host. We were treated to a tour of his studio where he had many works in progress, and we had some nice conversation with him. Definitely worth a return visit.
