Find out what French restaurants to try in Cuenca. Writers and poets have long flourished in arts-oriented Cuenca, the country's third-largest city and the capital of the Azuay province. Cafes and galleries are tucked among the narrow cobblestone streets. The main plaza hosts both the old cathedral, started in 1557, the year the city was founded, and the blue-domed Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, dating to 1885. Locally made Panama hats get top billing at the markets, with centrally located Casa de la Mujer a shopping standout.

Serious dedication to cooking and a light hearted approach to life; these dual aspects encompass the philosophy of Giovanni Cambizaca, the chef patron of Le Petit Jardin. Each weekend we offer a new menu inspired by the freshest ingredients from our local
The restaurant is off the beaten path but well worth finding. The atmosphere is very cozy with nice background music. The service is very good and attentive. Four of went there for lunch. Three had the daily lunch special and one ordered from the menu. The lunch special included a bowl of very tasty soup followed by the main course of a steak plate with salad & good fries. Then for desert we were served a cup of fresh fruits. Included was a glass of fresh fruit juice. The service was professional, the presentation nice and the ambiance of the restaurant very pleasant. This was all topped by an extremely reasonable price for the quality & tastiness of the food. We left the restaurant extremely contented & recommend it highly.

French pastry chef, Julien, puts his heart and soul into producing fresh, tasty cookies, quiches, and pastries at his newly opened shop in historic Cuenca. My husband especially liked his crispy, butter cookies with large chunks of chocolate. He has started to make them just about daily as they are very popular with visitors and locals. Julien speaks French, English, and Spanish and is as charming and welcoming as his treats are delicious. Muy sabrosa, Julien - Susana and Garito from Detroit.

With more than 20 years of operation Villarosa its a Classic in Cuenca
Had dinner at Villa Rosa last night as I was yearning for some Italian food. The restaurant decor and layout was quite a surpirise as I wasn't expecting such elegance in such a location, but it was very tastefully and well done. The Staff, especially Jerry (the bar tender) were very helpful and professional.I ordered a bottle of white wine at $30.00 US (which was one of the cheapest) and the mixed seafood risotto (about $20.00 US) I was served 3 slices of bread with great garlic butter then the wine while waiting (which was nice and cold). The risotto was very good and served at the right temperature, (better than I would have expected anywhere in Ecuador).Chocolate cake with ice cream and a glass of Hennesy @ $20.00 US) to top it off, YIKES!!! Yes an expensive meal but as they say here in Ecuador, you can expect to double your bill if you have alcohol!!Overall a great and tipsy experience!!
