Unusual food and surroundings in rural France, close to St Cyprien on the side of the valley above the village. Worth seeking out, including for vegetarians. It is necessary to make a reservation for a meal, although not for the bar. If you are vegetarian, say when you book and you will get an excellent meal. The setting is a large barn on the site of an old manor farm. Beautifully converted by the owner retaining the original beams and other features, with a large picture window at one end of the restaurant, with long views out over the fields. Inside, there are pieces of restored old farm machinery, including a wooden thresher and flax cutter, and the owner will explain them to you if you are interested. There is also a very sunny terrace, with similar views. The food is based around cooking done on your own hot stones at the table (and the stones are frequently refreshed as they cool), but extends to far more than this. We cooked vegetable burgers (of three varieties), with mushrooms and courgettes, on the stones, but also had four different salads and marinated vegetables and an aubergine gratin. There was a dressed courgette dish, cucumber marinated in lemon and olive oil, a tomato and red onion salsa and a green salad with a variety of perfectly ripe tomatoes. There was also aligot: a local Aveyronnaise dish of very rich silky mashed potatoes with cheese and garlic, again re-heated for us when it had cooled without us having to ask for it. We started with a delicious vegetable soup (just nature prepared, apparently) and finished with a dessert of apples from the garden cooked in lightly spiced red wine and served with ice cream and caramel sauce. The food is seasonal, so changes through the year. We ate vegetarian food, which was excellent, but there is also meat to cook on the stones for those who want it.The bar specialises in a wide range of beers, including Belgian fruit beers and other dark and light beers. We can recommend the peach beer, even if you don't usually drink beer.Service is attentive and friendly, with the meal proceeding at a very relaxed pace which was necessary to allow time for all that food! The owner speaks French, English, German and Flemish and will happily converse with you in any of these languages. The children went for a stroll around outside to look at the lizards before dessert. We were all made to feel very welcome. It is a perfect place for a leisurely meal. We hope to visit again.
It warms my heart that a place like this exists! I admire the spirit of these people. They try to make the way between the product and your plate as short as possible. They breed animals, keep bees, grow their own potatoes and all that ends up in your plate and at a very good price. Everything is homemade and sometimes even homegrown. What more can one wish for? We really had the feeling that food doesn't get more honest and pure. The menu is not very elaborate but what is on it is tasty and of very good quality. The location, near the river, under the trees, is also quite appealing. And last but not least: they have a small shopping corner inside the restaurant where you can buy their honey, some pottery and knitwear. So, don't hesistate to bring home a little souvenir!

Very friendly staff and well executed and tasty food. A garden for the kids to run around. Definitely worth a stop if you prefer a quiet place over touristic Conques! Would have given it a 5 score if it was a bit better priced (menu with three simple courses at 21euro)

How many places can you get a 4-course meal (trout, 3 kinds of stuffed veg - cabbage, pepper & tomato - cheese, dessert + coffee & wine 'à volonté') all for â¬12??I don't know of anywhere else. I had previously only been here for coffee (it's close to my doctor's surgery). Fortunately, I don't need to go to my doctor very often, but maybe I need more excuses to come here!

I live very close to this restaurant & visit it several times each summer. It is heavenly to sit on the terrace enjoying the great local food which is of the highest quality. This year there is a 31 euro menu which is great value. I had Foie Gras & Aubrac beef - yummy! Smashing desserts too. They do a nice amuse Bouche & lovely local aperitifs. They also cater for my veggie wife with a delicious Assiete de legumes.

My friend and I were hoping to have an ice cream here. When the servers ignored us after quite a bit of time, my friend waved to the female server who just nodded. Then my friend used their toilet. When she returned, the servers were still ignoring us. We never even saw the menu. At this point, I decided to stand up and leave. Then the other server came running. I told him that they had taken too long.Don't eat here.

A real nice place in Grand-Vabre - simple but excellent food, at very reasonnable price. What I especially enjoyed was the way I have been welcomed - I was on a one day hiking trip, looked quite dirty when I arrived there around 1pm, with my back-pack, and still, I was welcomed with a great, truely genuine smile !I really love people who love their job and can communicate such great and true feelings upon arriving at their place !Besides, the place is very simply set-up, but it's nice, with great food.
