Filomena

Reviewed By Maria Eliza Q. V

Every December, my friends and I stay at Bethel Guest House and would always eat at Cafe Filomena for the affordable breakfast meals and wonderful view of the boulevard. However, this year's experience at the cafe was very disappointing. Although our food was still good, we couldn't believe that the brewed coffee we used to love could turn out to be so bad - it was like hot water with a hint of coffee. Even instant coffee was better than what they were brewing. We don't know if their machine was broken or if they were running out of coffee grounds but I do hope they fix this.

Cafe Laguna - Dumaguete

Café Laguna began as a labor of love. Started by Lita Urbina, who comes from a family of culinary enthusiasts, the first restaurant in 1991 was her way of sharing her authentic Filipino dishes with everyone. With the help and encouragement of her family,

The food that i love at Cafe Laguna are their Crispy Pata, pancit, lumpia shanghai and chopsuey. The restaurant though is quite small and parking is very hard to come by but the ambiance inside is good. Staff are very attentive and the place is cozy.

We dined here twice during our Dumaguete vacation. Food's your usual Cebuano/Visayan fare. Prices are reasonable and servings are just the right size. It's also conveniently located at Robinson's Dumaguete. The staff is also very helpful and advises you honestly on the freshness of the fish in case you want to order fresh seafood for kinilaw.

Came here to do some online work for a couple hours. Wifi worked for 30 minutes or so, then stopped working, but that's PLDT / Sky Cable retardation, not the restaurant, plus the place was busy with everyone probably using their phone on wifi. Metal chairs were comfortable enough, but would have preferred something else more comfortable for doing work.Blueberry cheesecake, brewed coffee, and pineapple chicken sandwich were good, but for cheesecake enthusiasts, it will be disappointing, kind of had that instant flavor, not the heavy and dense feel of real cheesecake.

Great little place with quite a few vegetarian options. I went with the squash soup, monggo guisado and tumeric tea. All are really good but the monggo guisado is just an explosion of flavour, every bite was delicious. And very healthy too.We walked over here from the port area which is about a 15 minute walk. Would’ve walked much further for this!

Lab-as Seafood Restaurant

We went at past ten to make reservations for a group of 15 and to pre-order. Also, instructed to make the food available at 12 noon. Orders came in trickles. Forgot the grilled liempo and replaced it with lechon kawali which came at the end of the meal and so was the ginataang alimasag. The one who took the orders completely forgot. So, service is mediocre. It was embarrassing to our guests who were our hosts in your city. Food wasn't that great except for the bouillabaisse in coconut cream. There was a piano player, so it adds to the ambiance. But, will I go back next time I have the chance to visit Dumaguete...no!Hi Slueventsgoddess, we want to sincerely apologized for your experience at Lab-as Restaurant. We may not be able to change the past but if you give us a chance, we will make it up to you. A big restaurant close to the sea, Lantaw is a great discovery. We ordered baked scallops topped with lots of garlic. They were so juicy and tender. The calamari was okay. But the crab cooked in butter and garlic was phenomenal: I could have finished the sauce by serving it over rice but that wouldn’t be so healthy (lol). Great seafood place, for sure.

Unlike other restaurants that offer a multitude of food choices, Adamo does the opposite, but compensates for the limited offerings by overwhelming you with dishes that are simply delicious. The Shrimp Pasta, Boneless Crispy Pata, Braised Beef Shank and Smoked Pork Belly Pancit that my family of 4 had for dinner are just heaven to the taste buds. With quick, attentive staff and a homey ambiance that's perfect for conversations, Chef Edison better do quickly the earlier opening hours and expansion he was talking about since we're looking forward to coming back for more.

We actually went here twice in 2 days. So it's quite remarkable that they managed to make mistakes on the bills both times and they are one of only two restaurants in Dumaguete that I'm aware of that have a Service Charge (5%).You may think (depending where you come from) that 5% SC is reasonable. But the SC we paid for one meal would almost pay one waiters salary and does it actually go to the staff? On the first occasion we had ordered kinilaw (raw spicy fish with salad), it was only after we had left the restaurant that we realised we'd paid for it but never had it. partly our fault I guess. The second occasion, I scrutinised the bill and found Pinakbet there, which we had neither ordered nor eaten. After telling the waiter, we had to wait ages for the corrected bill. We have eaten there many times and it is not the first time there have been "mistakes" in the bill, always in the restaurants favour I have to say.As for the food, mostly it is fine and we do like the Bouillabaisse seafood soup with tomato and coconut base, as well as the Lumpiang Isda and steamed oysters. But prices (for Dumaguete) are not cheap and of course there is that SC.Hi KendalVisayas thank you for leaving a feedback and thank you for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologized for your this experience, we are always aiming for good service and good food. We would love to see you in the future and serve you.
