The Northern Cape (Afrikaans: Noord-Kaap; Tswana: Kapa Bokone) is the largest and most sparsely populated province of South Africa. It was created in 1994 when the Cape Province was split up. Its capital is Kimberley. It includes the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, part of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, an international park shared with Botswana. It also includes the Augrabies Falls and the diamond mining regions in Kimberley and Alexander Bay. The Namaqualand region in the west is famous for its Namaqualand daisies. The southern towns of De Aar and Colesberg, in the Great Karoo, are major transport nodes between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. In the northeast, Kuruman is known as a mission station and also for its artesian spring, the Eye of Kuruman. The Orange River flows through the province, forming the borders with the Free State in the southeast and with Namibia to the northwest. The river is also used to irrigate the many vineyards in the arid region near Upington.

I love a spur! The food is great and I hardly ever have a bad experience but sometimes your luck runs out. Ordered a draft but they had no pint glasses so it had to be split in two 300ml glasses, what? The coldrink was flat, the garlic bread starter was so cold that the garlic butter wasn't even melted and when you order a sirloin steak but they bring you this chewy piece of rump I just about had enough. Dinner options in Kathu were strangely lacking...we had aimed for the Mugg & Bean, but they closed at 6pm. Having fish in the Kalahari didn't scream to us, so we wrote off John Dory's and Ocean Basket. McDonald's and KFC...we can get those in Kent, if we're feeling self-abusive. So...Nando's.First, they were open. The food was a bit salty, but Peggy had a surprisingly quality hot pot with chicken, and outside of the sodium content I thoroughly enjoyed my peri-peri crusted chicken wings. The best surprise was the very low-cost side-salad I ordered...which was incredibly large, fresh, and very welcome. The staff provided very good service for a fast-food restaurant, and ultimately there was little to nothing to complain about that wasn't sodium-related.It's not fine dining, but for an above-average, quick meal in Kathu, this is a great option.

Last week we attended the Del Rio Spur in Kuruman that we have frequently visited in the past. They have improved quite a bit but this experience was Very Disappointing. It was a Monday and the Burger Special day, thus the plave was very full. The waiters were out of their comfort zone due to being to few on shift and service was poor. We were 4 adults with 2 babies and one todler and our starters were burnt(crumbed mushrooms) and we left after 3 hours without enjoying our meal as we have not received it yet. They gave it as a take-away but they will NOT see us soon due to this shocking poor food and poor service experience.Dear dreyern74,Thank you for taking the time to review our Del Rio Spur Restaurant. If you want to mix with locals this is the place to be! Owner Rozelle is very knowledgeable on the diamond industry and loves to tell about it! Her personal approach makes you feel at home. Enjoy drinks and honest food! No fresh fish available due to strict quota for fishermen. We were very off season so not many quests at the restaurant expect for some locals. We had fun and enjoyed the numerous stories and local atmosphere. Thank you Rozelle!

Sunday 12 August 2018, Stayed overnight in Kimberley and the receptionist recommended the Spur. Waiter friendly and helpfull. Food was delivered in good timing. Excellent quality and portion was good. Husband had a T-Bone and he was very happy with the way it was prepared. Amazing accommodation in Richmond and the cherry on top is the Karoo Padstal they also run 20 km from Richmond. Both sparkling clean and both serve the most amazing food.
