Enjoyed a fish supper here. The place is spotlessly clean and the food really good. Huge portion of the most delicious cod freshly cooked. Special thank you to our lovely waiter Sam who was most attentive and polite. Highly recommend.

King Edwards is situated opposite the Jubilee Clock on The Esplanade, with views overlooking Weymouth Beach. Our licensed restaurant offers an extensive menu with daily specials, and we can also serve you from our take-away.
Had to return the mushy peas due to hardened lumps of dark green in the peas, blatantly been hot held and had solidified. Had to return the butterflied chicken, really tough and chewy, over cooked by the looks of it. Chips okay, fish was average, pricing a little on the steep side. Serve was the positive part.

On a Saturday night four of us asked if we could get a table, bearing in mind the restaurant was empty, the first reply from in the kitchen was "NO we are too busy" after some discussion in Chinese the young man said O.K. you can sit here and showed us to a table, we sat down he then got out a cloth and started to clean down the table which still had food remains from the last time it was used. This and the fact that it was freezing in there was the last straw and I said sorry we will move on to somewhere else. Therefore I cannot comment on the food but the service is not at all acceptable and is a waste of a good restaurant.I want to eat where i'm appreciated for my custom not made to think they are doing me a favour.

Oh yes people...we finally have a fish and chip shop worth its weight in gold in this country!!Look...chips are easy to do so I won't bore you about them (apart from the fact they are good). Its fish that has time after time let me down in this country. Ranging from something with the flavour of deep fried sea water to, if this is even possible, something even worse than deep fried sea water but with even less flavour than deep fried sea water!! However for the first time EVER in the history of eating fish and chips in this country the fish was worth its weight in deep friend gold!!! It had flavour! OMG...what a revelation!! Fish with flavour served at a British chippy!!! Absolutely unbelievable!!Not only was the cod emotionally beautiful...it was also the size of a small boat! The large is exactly that...LAAAAAARGE!!! The medium fish was only just slightly smaller and would do for most normal humans! The premises were also large, airy and clean and the staff were lovely. The simple fact is I'd very happily travel back to Weymouth just to have the fish and chips from this shop!![COMPLETELY UNRELATED]But here is the thing about fish and chips in this country (which is true regardless of where you are ordering your deep fried sea water from); They will happily batter every chocolate bar known to mankind BUT the moment you ask if they do battered mussles or scollops or oysters etc they look at you as if they suddenly lost the ability to speak English and a small child starts crying in the corner asking daddy to make the mean man stop it!WOW!!!! I don't even know where to start with what is officially the BEST review we have ever had. I loved every word of it. I am still picturing your deep fired seawater, that really made me smile. You have a special way with words and humour thank you and I hope we'll see you again soon at a very happy Fish 'n' Fritz.Kind regards.Paul

We have eight shops in Dorset which serve the finest fish and chips, cooked responsibly and sustainably.
Have been before and it has been good. But staggered that having travelled to get there (and parking in Fortuneswell is no fun!) they were closed... at lunchtime... on Saturday... in June. Extremely odd business model. Maybe they are resting so they can deal with the hordes of visitors they get in November!Thank you for your review. The business model has changed over the years you are quite right, but the model has changed as customer's eating habits have changed. We now get more customers coming to us in the evenings but less at lunchtimes. The Fortuneswell shop has been closed on a Saturday lunchtime for over 2 years now, however, our shop at Portland Road in Wyke is open on a Saturday lunchtime. Wage costs keep rising relentlessly and all businesses can only afford to be open at peak times when the tills are ringing otherwise they will fail in this current economic environment.
