Pop's Italian Beef & Sausage is a popular restaurant chain that opened in 1980 and currently has 12 locations in Chicago's south suburbs and Indiana. My wife and I are waiting for Pop's newest location to open on West North Avenue between La Salle and North Wells Street in our Gold Coast/Old Town neighborhood. The sooner, the better. Until then, we are content to visit the original Pop's Beef at 7153 West 127th Street in Palos Heights and the location at 10337 South Kedzie and at 18328 Governors Highway in Homewood and in Orland Park, Tinley Park, Lyons, Joliet, Lockport and Romeoville. A group of old high school pals met in Homewood recently and sampled a lot of items on Pop's menu...chili, cream of chicken rice soup, Italian beef, BBQ beef, corned beef on rye, triple cheeseburger, double boneless BBQ rib sandwich, chili dog, even a one-pound jumbo shrimp dinner. We washed it all down with milk shakes, root beer, lemonade and fruit punch. Pop's would be a welcome addition to the North/Wells Street corridor.

If you were raised in Chicago area - your dad taught you that the "porcelynne room" had the best burgers in town. There onion rings are good. There coffee is the second best to Dunkin Donuts.
Stopped in for a quick bite and was surprised as to the quality of the soup, salad, and sandwich we ordered.Tomato soup was tasty, had bits of tomato, and did not have an acidic taste many soups have. Chickpea veggie salad was crisp and the Potbelly vinaigrette dressing was good. We split a pulled pork sandwich on flat bread which had the right amount of tangy BBQ sauce and the bread was fresh.
Where to eat Pizza food in Homewood: The Best Restaurants and Bars
The Good: This was just a short walk from our hotel on a recent stop.(Actually, about the only place in walking distance). So we gave it a shot - the sign said Open 24 Hours. They sure try to please everyone - they have Philly cheese steaks, subs, tacos, polish sausage, burgers, gyros, fries and more. I had the Philly Cheese steak and my wife tried the Chicken Philly Cheese Steak - both big sandwiches on toasted hoagie rolls, tender, juicy meat, and fries. Serve yourself soft drinks, and the staff was very friendly. Our food came out very quick (we were the only ones in there at the time)The Bad: The blinds and windows could use a good scrubbing. The UGLY: We sat in a side booth by a window, and after we started eating we noticed a swarm of small ants along the window sill, and onto the table. They really need an exterminator there.
We were thinking Mexican Food, Mexican Food, Mexican Food. We saw this place right across the street from the Loews Movie Theatres and between Pulaski and I-57! it had a nice sign and thought lets give it a chance. We were more than pleasantly surprised, we asked what should we order if we have never been here before. The immediate answer was...tacos or Burritos! So I had the Fajita Burrito because it sounded awesome. I also had a Horchata. I drank it down in about 10 seconds, it was cold, and delicious. Then the food came out and it too was delicious. The Fajita Burrito Dinner included refried beans and Spanish rice. The entire meal was perfect, great portions, hot and spiced just right. I know I will go back again and would recommend it to others too!
