Discover why this family-owned winery has been described by NZ wine author Peter Saunders as "the regional star of Matakana".Just 39 minutes north of the Auckland CBD, Ascension handcrafts critically-acclaimed wine from both rare and well known varieties
I have been to Ascension many times for lunch but this was my first visit for wine tasting and tour. I wanted something special, to learn something new, to try new wines and I was not disappointed. The property is beautiful and the wines are special. The host spent so much time with us and answered our 100's of questions. We took friends who were visiting from Canada and they said it was the best wine tasting they have experienced. We decided to make this an annual tradition for us and our friends.
Rustic craft bar and kitchen serving good quality simple food, local craft beers / wines and spirits with a friendly smile :)
My wife tracks down these places on Facebook and we do make an effort to visit those that look the business. The Red House ticks a lot of boxes, family friendly, dog friendly, indoor & outdoor dining options and run by a couple who are passionate about food.So we went there on a lazy Sunday afternoon to have a look and the first thing that strikes you is the amazing location, right on the main highway I had visions of bikers pulling in for their customary big breakfast or families returning from their Northland camping trip. It has lots of room both inside and outside, a large lawn for the kids to play with a built in playground. There is a stage set up for live music and the place is sheltered from the road noise so you get a real intimate dining experience. The UK owner is a chef and a damn good one, my wife had the roast of the day and I had a burger and the food was outstanding, my only criticism was our kids ribs were spicy and they werenât able to eat them. The staff were really good about it and we werenât charged which was awesome. There is a but, unfortunately I canât give them a five star because of the smell from the landfill works next door. I feel for these people, they have such a great restaurant with a wonderful menu, terrific staff and so much potential but they have fallen victims to a Council decision to build a landfill next door and the smell is very unappetising. I was really surprised to see them so empty on a warm Sunday afternoon, a restaurant like this deserves to be full and pumping on the weekends during summer, but I worry that if the landfill expansion continues, they may battle and that is not fair.Good luck team, we will continue to support you.

Beautiful setting looking across the river. You can sit inside or out. Husband ordered our coffees, wasn't given a receipt. 20mins goes and no sign of coffees. Appears they have no record of our order! Fortunately a local saw my husband order and pay. We got our coffee and refund which we returned as the coffee was fine. Think it was ashame it happened and just unlucky.Hi Sally SSorry for your experience in our cafe, we are trying fix the technical issue from our Point to sale software supplier, once again sorry about this !
Small, new, fresh cafe, in the heart of Warkworth. Fresh cabinet food made from scratch, menu food for breakfast and lunch, wine by the glass. Open 7 til 4 weekdays. 8 - 4 weekends. Great coffee, friendly, attentive staff.
Visited in February 2019 and stopped for Coffee. Nice clean cafe, slightly set back off the street for a quiet beverage of your choice

We had the 5 course degustation dinner on Saturday night. The only thing we would've skipped was cheese souffle, but that is personal preference nothing to do with the way it was cooked (neither of us like cheese souffle). The service was outstanding and I would definitely go back and recommend to others.Thank you Lee-Ann - we are so sorry to read about the Cheese Souffle - but next time please do remember to tell us in advance if there is anything you dislike and we would definitely offer you something else instead! It would entirely be our pleasure!Do look forward to seeing you again, soon!

Great service and great food. Unfortunately we could not be seated inside, even though most tables remained empty throughout our lunch. Drinks rather expensive. Thanks for your review, we're glad you enjoyed the food and service. Apologies you couldn't be seated inside, these tables were reserved - we strongly recommend booking a table online when visiting to dine in the weekend :)

In a brand new spacious and comfortable atmosphere, So French offers all sort of French delicacies. Either on the spot or on takeaway, you will find coffee, soupe du jour, lunch, French viennese, French cheeses, home baked breads, sandwiches, real tasty h
We visited this cafe in February which staying in nearby Brown's Bay. I'm from Christchurch, have my main home in Sydney but also have a home in the South of France. I am there 4 months each year and I like to call it 'home'. This coffee shop is not French IMHO, and I stand by that following this visitBonjour Albywon, thanks for your feedback! Please let us know what would make So French more French than French owners, more than half the staff being French, French recipes, French imported goods, French background music, French books to read, French wines and cider, French designer lighting, even the furniture has been made by a French builder... But as you have a house in South of France you sure have some expertise in the matter... Leaving a bad review on social media, almost 3 months after your visit, for absolutely no genuine reason related to the food, coffee, services the business you are reviewing is offering, putting this business overall online rating down and harming it in the process is quite petty and pretty pathetic, IMHO...

Award Winning cafeteria and chocolaterie. A Kiwi styled menu, just like our nanas used to bake: home-made cabinet food and specialty drinks. Next door in the Chocolaterie are hand-made chocolates, British sweets, Dutch licorice, Kiwi lollies, and gourmet
The speed of customer turnover and the numbers inside are the start of a good experience. This place is busy but the wait is short and the staff very friendly. We stopped for a bite to eat and a coffee, both exceeded expectations. Espresso was just right and if anything shows up a barista, its a poorly drawn espresso in a cold or large cup. This place has baristas that know their job and deliver a great product. They would teach a few other places!Good range of food and for the GF eaters, plenty to choose from.Woo Hoo! Thanks so much for the feedback, it's great to know that the hard work and training and coaching is working. I'll pass your comments onto the team. We really appreciate your feedback, and your lovely rating - pop in and make yourselves known next time - we love to make new friends! Susan
