This comfortable restaurant provided classic french cooking at reasonable prices. I chose one of the set menus and thought the quality of the ingredients and the presentation were both excellent. My wife chose two dishes from the a la carte menu and was extremely happy both with her winter vegetable salad and with her delicious fish dish. Service was helpful and attentive. We would be happy to return.

Do not expect fine dining but expect traditional French cuisine and hearty portions. Very cozy and friendly atmosphere, traditional design and welcoming personnel. Reserve a table in advance! All ordered dishes were tasty. Long wine list gives a possibility to chose the wine you would like. We were satisfied with a bottle of Gewürtzraminer from Alsace. Kids menu is very good! They could even offer an ice cream in a waffle cone!

The food wad solidly good, the decor OK and the serving owner very nice until the very end when we had to wait and there was a billing error: all acceptable and understandable, except for the unexcusable reaction of the owner towards a guest's comments. I still give her the benefit of the doubt, but she should avoid keeping people waiting and making billing errors.

We were invited by friends and had an absolutely divine experience. Service was very good and the dishes simply delicious. We were presented with an amuse bouche which was a chicken liver gateau. The grenoille were beautifully prepared. Some of us had the trio of foie gras which was nicely presented. They have an extensive and diverse wine selection. Well worth a visit.

Went here on the recommendation of our nearby hotel, who made the reservation. Well laid out dining room with bright, minimalist decor. Lovely menu and leisurely service. I had very garlic flavoured snails and then the regional speciality, Poulet de Bresse, very tasty. The dessert was unusual - Creme Brulee with pistachio - mmmmm!

Brasserie le Français is an institution in Bourg-en-Bresse; managed by the same family for many years, it has been classified as a historic monument since 2010. The formidable space is rather majestic, with high vaulted ceilings, colourful decor, full of ambiance. Reservations are usually required and the dining room was almost full on a Thursday night; the high ceilings amplified the sounds leading to a somewhat noisy atmosphere. Most diners opted for variations on the famous poulet fermier de Bresse theme â we went for the side of beef and frog legs with parsley, walnuts scallops, and gratin dauphinois. The Côtes du Rhône (50 cl) wine was offered at a very reasonable 11â¬. Service was professional and attentive; afterwards, our waiter left a bottle of 12 year old 43% eau de vie de Busey (a local region between Bourg-en-Bresse and Aix le Bain) on the the table. Serve yourself ! Pretty strong stuff indeed!

A 30 cover restaurant, so you need to book, run by two lovely young people. Husband is chef and wife is maitre dâSelection is naturally limited but food quality and presentation was truly excellent. This deserves a Bib Gourmand and well deserves its number 1 rating on Trip Advisor. One of the best meals, and certainly the best value, on this trip round France.

A very good place in the heart of Bourg-en-Bresse. A talented cook proposes interesting and non-classical dishes for a decent price, and the waiter is efficient, friendly, and helpful. I strongly recommend dishes with the Bresse Gaulouise, the local chicken breed considered as the most savory in France. And for those who want to know what the name of the restaurant means: it's onomatopoetic for "La cage" (the cage), which might refer to the barbie doll in the birdcage close to the entrance.
