A special celebration yesterday and we were looked after so well by Angelo, Ben and Katrina (plus the all important hidden talented team in the kitchen). An excellent evening with delicious food and wine. The quality and presentation of the dishes are what keep bringing us back. The menu has changed recently with some tweaks to the "classics" and as always there is a specials board. The ravioli fritti are superb with a little kick from the n'duja; it's an unusual addition but boy are they good! The fish dishes were succulent, full of flavour. Portion size is always good. Excellent wine list but do ask Angelo for advice/suggestions. We have never been disappointed.

GIVE IN TO GREAT STEAK Beef is a labour of love here at Miller & Carter. We put everything into pursing the perfect steak, from the field to the butcherâs block to the grill, so only the finest, most flavoursome cuts make your plate.
Second visit to M&C in Reading. Son and I shared the Chateaubriand it was wonderful. My husband had the Butchers burger which was really tasty. Poti, our waitress was really attentive but even more impressive was the overall service and the helpful staff who helped the two visually impaired customers next to us. They both had dogs and asked if we minded sitting near the dogs. We did not and I thought the dealt with the customers who complained very well. Well done M&C team for looking after those customers so well. We will be visiting againK1702lnsoniad, your wonderful feedback and rating mean a lot to us, thanks for your praise and kind comments about our team. We hope to see you soon! Iâm glad you enjoyed your pancakes and received great service from one of our waiters. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

I don't know why this place isn't #1. It is by far the best restaurant in Reading that's also reasonably priced. A great location for a birthday or event. The food is great but this is indeed reflected in the price.Thank you Emily N, that's really nice of you to say. It makes us super proud! Hope to welcome you back to Valpy soon.

We have been here a few times now and the food and service always seems to get better. The staff are so very friendly and welcoming. The food is fantastic and well-presented, always cooked to perfection. It is nice to be able to enjoy your meal without staff hovering and waiting to take the plates away.Really excellent place to dine with family and friends. If you visiting in the area, or indeed live in Berkshire, then book a table and enjoy a magic evening.

Dinner tonight at Shaun Dickens in Henley on Thames. What a gem, what a surprise, though with a score of 6 in the Good Food Guide it shouldnât really have been a surprise. Dickens has worked with some seriously good chefs, notably Raymond Blanc of the Manoir aux QuatâSaisons (Michelin 2 star) and with Thomas Keller at his 3 star Per Se in New York - and the pedigree shows. Here is really fine cooking at very reasonable prices. There is a tasting menu as well as a carte, but we opted on this occasion for the midweek menu (2 courses £28, 3 courses £34), which is really excellent value with no corners cut. A small cup of delicious soup as an amuse-bouche started things off, with excellent home-made focaccia and well-salted butter. The chicken terrine starter was moist and well flavoured, served with tomato gel, chutney, gremolata and rocket. Our main course, lamb belly, was a lesson in how undervalued âcheapâ cuts of meat can be quite wonderful when properly handled: this was perfectly caramelised on the outside and meltingly flavoursome on the inside, served on a bed of crushed peas with charred baby gem and Jersey Royals, with a well-reduced & properly seasoned lamb jus. My sweet of pineapple came with both fresh & compressed fruit, a trace of pink peppercorn and a slice of coconut cake. My friendâs dessert of baked Witheridge o a slice of fruit loaf with apple jam and honey was almost a meal in itself, a quirky but very satisfying cross between a sweet & a savoury.Wines are fairly priced, the small selection of First Growths priced better than fairly. There are no halves, but a fair selection by two sizes of glassService was charming and helpful, but it was worrying to see it so quiet on a Thursday evening. So wake up Henley! This classy and accomplished restaurant would hold its head up in London any day of the week; support this local gem, youâll regret it if you donât.Strongly recommended.

Invited to Sunday Lunch to the French Horn, by friends, we were NOT disappointed. This establishment is old, cosy, quirky and individualistic. From arrival, we were welcomed with warmth and sincerity and allowed to 'go at our own pace', making for a very relaxed ocassion. Pre-lunch drinks were served on the beautiful terrace with stunning views of the river and surrounding colourful garden and rural environment beyond.......under 'no pressure', we eventually wandered back into the main property to be led to our table - beautifully laid - traditional dining style.Lunch was plentiful and delicious - the 'house special' duck (roasted over an open-fire in the bar/lounge area - for all to see/smell) was succulent and extremely tasty.Despite arriving shortly after 12.30pm we didn't leave until after 4.00pm - not because service was slow but because we were relaxed and contended and felt no need to move!! In fact, service was attentive and unobtrusive therefore conversation was allowed to continually flow.Given the busyness of the restaurant, I would recommend pre-booking at any time - to avoid disappointment and to enable you to enjoy the pleasures that this uniquely different restaurant offers.

Just moved into Twyford, we were very pleased to discover this place! We've been several times already and always had great quality food, with original dishes and quality ingredients. Beer is great and wine selection too. Personnel is very kind and polite. I'm amazed this place is not n° 1 in Twyford, can't think of any other place to eat better in the area, especially when you are not looking for another simple burger or typical pub food. Can't recommend enough and we will certainly be coming very often.

We said we would return and we did. It was another fabulous roast dinner - this time beef and excellent value. Love the way they start with a simple shared starter and then a huge serving of veggies and succulent roast beef. Highly recommended but book early because space is limited.
