Taverna Petra is located just on the edge of Gorenja Vas in the Skofja Loka hills - a beautiful and largely undiscovered part of Slovenia which offers wonderful walks in the summer and a number of smaller ski resorts in winter. The Taverna is easily spotted above the roadside and is remarkable for the fact that its menu is very large and all freshly prepared to order, offering a superb selection of traditional Slovenian country dishes as well as fresh water fish and seafood. It is very much a local pub with simple pine decor and you could well be sharing the restaurant with locals playing cards and dominos. Don't let that put you off because the food is very good indeed and the service excellent - so well worth a visit if you are near Skofja Loka, Idrija or Cerkno. A big plus is that it is open 7 days a week often until the early hours.
Visitors can choose between different types of dishes, including local and house specialities. In addition, we offer vegetarian dishes, grilled dishes, fish dishes, weekend lunches and special menus for gourments. We also serve you with Slovenian dishes w

Very nice place with a great view if you sit outside on the porch, offers fresh seasonal food and delicious cakes!
Obviously too small parking place on Sundays - but this is also good sign, isn´t it. People like this place. Very tasty pizza, delicious burgers, good meat dishes. Big assortments of beer and wine & reasonable prices. That is all you need for a good lunch or dinner. Looking forward going there again!

Might be that it was due to late Sunday 5 course menu was a bad choice. Sunday a bad day, just before restaurant closes. It might be the wine. We opted for Zidarich malvasia (veg and fish menu); quite terrible decision. I admit it was our fist encounter with Zidarich. Sorry, but even if wine is macerated and or bio, it still has to has some resemblance to wine. Our mistake, but it spoiled overall experience. All but one course was good, but not so imaginative as we remember from the past. Risoto was a positive surprise, a soup was very good, sweet (tiramisu) was eatable, while main dish, squid was a total dissapointment. Chewing squid with no character and even a bit sour aftertaste. Ok. Perhaps due to bad wine selection as well.On top of it, there was music. And what a music! Sorry, I am very tolerant regarding taste, but - please bear in mind that to listen to "Martinov LulÄek" (one of many extreme stupidities heard that afternoon) while eating in one of supposed to be best Slovenian restaurant is outrageous. Running a restaurant is also having ability to relate to its guests. At least for high end restaurants that should be a rule. You missed us completely yesterday.Dear SimplyDrapi, Thank you very much for your review. I am really very sad to read that our restaurant didnât meet your expectations. We really try to pleased our gest, so we are hoping that your next experience will be better. Best regards from Danilo.

Great value, spotlessly clean and good food. We visited for lunch based on a local's recommendation. Wonderful salads with fried squid and local cheese plus good Slovenian wine by the glass were enjoyed and the bill was very reasonable. The area around is gorgeous too with a small shrine, church and interesting old buildings.

We have been here before and had the meat platter, which was good. This time we had the degustation menu and it was seriously delicious. I have not had better in Slovenia! The view is breathtaking, and the staff friendly too. I highly recommend this place.

Visiting Slovenia to see my cousin who brought me here to his local "bar". I loved it. Very good beer and perfect local food served by very friendly and helpful staff. This is apparently one of the oldest builldings in the region and has a good traditional feel to it.

special place above the gorge of the river, by a bridge - at the entrance to the old town of Å kofja Loka, exceptionally cozy place, sat outside just to sample something small from their menu and enjoy observing the evening promenaders passing by. Had a ken sum (or something like that), and an ale from a local (Loo-blah-nah) brewery - a perfect dinner. Will definitelly return to try more from the menu ;)
