Not many choices but the food we ate was very tasty, it was a huge amount of food and the price was very appealling, The service was very friendly and there was flexibility to change the plates as we asked for. Try the migas.

Its our local lunch restaurant right by the road on a long lonely stretch of road between Serpa and Mertola. The food has always been great with the old and now with the new management too, they do traditional homely alentejo dishes but also coal grilled meats/fish and great wine of course. The space is simple and clean, with quite a few tables. I cant fault it, big portions, very apealling prices too plus everyone is friendly and knows each other.

When in Serpa, one should try the "queijadas". This place has been cooking them for years and they taste delicious!

Well, in my hometown there are plenty of good restaurants and bars. I personally know them all, since childhood, and I have even worked part-time in some of them. Back in childhood, and especially during holidays, I used to work to earn some money, and I clearly remember working in this nice restaurant entitled "The Pools" (directly translated from portuguese). To begin with, I must explain that this restaurant has more than 20 years, and has its name from the neighbourhood public pools of the beautiful city of Serpa. The pools and the restaurant were built in the same time, and till the date, this is one of the 'must-visit' restaurants in Serpa. Primarily focused on fish and sea food dishes, the restaurant also englobes some of the very traditional local and national dishes. Being close to the camping site, it is a great spot for all year long. As I mentioned, I used to visit it during all my childhood, and I've even worked for some time. This time, studying abroad, I came to visit family and friend, and of course, I had to drink a nice cold bubbly bear, and some sea food. Let's go steps:1- Restaurant facilities: The restaurant has a sea/fisherman theme, with plenty of seats, both inside and outside. Inside, it has two parts: the dinner area, and the bar/chill area. In the dinner area you are invited to seat and to face the pools and the lovely sunset, usually with the wide windows opened (during the summer). In the chill/bar area you are invited to have a sit and to calmly order beer after beer, and possibly some snacks (see food highly recommended - especially since this is the only place that has see food in the town). Full with local people, and some tourists, the ambient is nice and cozy, and it is very inviting. Then, you also have the outdoor area, with some nice seats in the sun and in the shadow, depending what you are looking for. Some tourists are fans of the sunny spots (to get some sunshine of course), while perhaps the locals are trying to get some shadows to drink their beers after a hard working day. Toilets are awesome, clean and spacious! To be honest, very inviting :)2- Food: In this restaurant, as I had the chance to already explain, you might be invited to try out seafood, or local traditional dishes. with different prices, depending on the type of food you are looking for, the selection is rather awesome and tasty! I personally ate Sardines. here the trick is that this dish does not have finite number of sardines. You eat what you can! For a fixed price, the kitchen is cooking as you are eating, and you only stop once you are full and done! They are just juicy and tasty, and they come with some nice baked potatoes and a nicely dressed simple salad. I personally ate about 10. Let me know if you can eat more :) Then you also have the local traditional appetisers, varying from ham to cheese, to the well-made crab-sauce! There is also plenty of fresh fish, and you are invited to stand-up, and to see the fish in the 'showcase' and select the type of cooking and seasoning. All in all, here you can eat quietly, cozily and tastily! 3- Service: The service is of an extreme importance for me personally. The owner of the restaurant, Mr. Rogério, isa great professional, always wanting the guests to have a great time! He will always come smiling, holding plenty of jokes and nice tricks to make our day even greater! I am amazed that still to this date he is able to surprise me! You will definitively feel what i am talking about. The overall service is fast, elegant and quite cool. Do not be worried with the huge amount of clients in the restaurant. The service flows quite normally, even during busy times. Do not forget to see the seafood and the fish in the fish tanks before eating, and please enjoy the coffee or the desert in the esplanade, where you will find a calm and enjoyable environment. All in all, a must-go place that you really won't regret!

The place is quite anonymous from the exterior but it is defintely worth a visit.O Gato is a nice restaurant that serves typical food from the Alentejano district. Specialties are petisques and seafood, but all food on the menu is tasty.I am travelling to Serpa on regular basis and I am always impressed about the food, the great service and the nice atmosphere at O Gato.I would strongly recommend a stop by this restaurant if you are close by. Bring your travel dictionary because the english skills are relatively limited.

We used this restaurant many years ago, looking around the Alentejo. The owner, wife and sons run the restaurant and the food is just as good, if not better than 6 years ago.I had the tenderloin on a rosemary stick, which, I think, as better now than all those years ago.

We ate here one evening on the recommendation of our host in Serpa that it was very good for local dishes. I had lamb and my wife had migas, containing bread soaked in garlic. Both were very good. The portions were very large - we could have shared one of the dishes. The service was friendly and helpful.
