Things to do in Schiltach
There is a large breakfast buffet provided each morning which also includes health food. The restaurant specialises in serving local and international dishes.
Als Notlösung - unser eigentliches Lieblingsrestaurant hatte für uns unerwartet - geschlossen. Also hier mal rein........ und naja.

The decor of the restaurant looks like a typical German braustube (well except for the small neon antlers) and I expected to find breaded and fried meat on the menu... but what a surprise! The food is anything but typical or traditional and this restaurant would rank highly in any town, German or American. Fresh vegetables were the highlight of every dish we tried and the preparation was unexpectedly good. We had curried chicken and vegetables over pasta, and a selection of sauteed (and al dente) fresh vegetables. I've visited Schramberg twice and eaten in two different restaurants, but Braustube Schraivogel will be the first place I visit if I'm back in the area.

The pizza was good, although I'm no pizza expert. I was a bit tired of German food and wanted something different. The pizza was huge and very reasonably priced. My large still water cost almost as much! Dessert was a yummy warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and surrounded by artfully placed fruit. The center of the cake was molten. This dessert rivaled any I've had in Europe so far. The dessert also cost almost as much as the whole huge pizza, but it was worth every penny.

Our stay at Gasthof Hirsch was again a great experience all around, from the warm welcome, the comfortable rooms, to the excellent culinary experience in the beautiful restaurant. All the dishes, carefully prepared with the freshest ingredients, showed the amazing culinary skills of chef Zimmermann, and the service, under the watchful eye of the proprietress, is attentive and homey (Ms. Weber, by the way, is an amazing baker and diners can enjoy her superb breads and cookies). A carefully selected wine list, fairly calculated, will delight oenophiles. A sense of generosity and well being suffuses the Gasthof Hirsch and we can't wait to experience its hospitality again in the near future.

Regional â fresh â qualityThe black forest offers everything for a great kitchen and foodWe get our product from regional bakers, butchers, farmers and hunters. Only the best quality is allowed, without compromise. We are very happy to live in an envirome
We spent a week on holiday on a farm in the area this summer and dined at the Kirnbacher Hof twice during the stay. It was the best restaurant we dined at, although I must say that, although the Schwarzwald is a lovely place, do not go there for its food, which is somewhat disappointing in general. So while we had our best dinners at Kirnbacher Hof while in the area, I can't really say that the food is top notch. Still, your best bet for a good dinner. It's a friendly place too.

A typical German dinner menu with considerable choice and all at an acceptable price. Choosing the "a la carte" selection from an English menu our carpaccio of beef was the best we have eaten whilst our choice of trout from the farms lake was cooked to our choice with a wonderful almond butter sauce!

We happened upon the place after wandering around for a while looking for somewhere suitable for a family with teenagers and a baby. We spotted the nice outdoor seating areas and it was clearly popular so after speaking to the friendly waitress with good English we decided to have a drink inside and wait for an outdoor table. We had schnitzel, macaroni cheese, stuffed pasta and pork medallions, all of which were well cooked, good portions and a fair price. We've had better mac & cheese in Germany and there was some confusion over which meals on the menu were available or not but overall I'd definitely recommend.

In the south-western corner of Germany known as the Schwarzwald or Black Forest is Shiltach, a picture-postcard pretty small town with a river running through the middle that has retained many of its old half-timbered houses, some dating back to the sixteenth century. One of its most charming buildings is the Gasthaus Sonne on the market square. My wife and son and I were looking for dinner after 21:00 when the Sonneâs kitchen had officially closed. However to our relief they were very welcoming, there was no problem accommodating us and the service throughout was friendly and smiling in a completely unforced manner. To start with the only negative point, my wife found her wurstsalat (German pork sausage with salad) rather uninspiring, though there was certainly a good plate of it. The rest of the dinner was very good. I had the sonnenteller, which comprised pork medallions with spaeztle (a type of noodle found in southern German speaking areas made with eggs, flour and salt), potato croquettes and mixed vegetables. My son had the katzagschroi (a beef dish with potatoes) which he found excellent. For dessert I had the apfelkuchen (apple cake) that is ubiquitous in southern Germany with walnut ice cream and my son had a large vanilla ice cream with a can of heated raspberries on the side. I had a beer, my wife had a coffee and my son had a glass of white Riesling wine from another pretty local town, Gengenbach. The bill came to a reasonable â¬55.80 and we would certainly go back there.
