We've been here several times, always hoping for the best because of the exceptional location. The food is good, well presented, but not gastronomique, which makes me wonder why it is noted in the Michelin Guide. The owner is extremely friendly and attentive. the Filet de Boeuf was average. My wife's Bar (fish) was better. The selection of cheeses was monotonous & not as good as previous visits.

An ideal restaurant situated opposite the central square car park. The dining room is very discreet and comfortable with plenty of space between tables providing sophisticated tableware. Our 12.50 ⬠package was excellent value, with a main, dessert and coffee. The service was quick and pleasant, and food quality well up to the standards we have come to expect in provincial France.

We only popped into the Paddock for a drink, so can't comment on the quality of the food.Once you get past the awful concept of this being an "Irish pub", which thank goodness it isn't, it is a good bar. The style and layout is good, the service is good and they have a couple of tellies to watch football. My only complaint is re the beer on tap. By all means have Bud and some arty Belgian lagers if you must, but don't forget your roots. Every bar should have a bog-standard beer and in France it should be Pelforth or similar. Not everyone wants designer beers. And re my comment about pseudo Irish bars. Why on earth do they have them outside of Ireland? Unless you go full out for the overpriced Guinness, and the tacky shamrock and begorrah crap it is rather pointless. Visitors to France want to experience a traditional French bar, so stick to what you know.

After a long journey we stayed overnight in Saint-Amand-Montrond and dined at La Rotonde as it was in the town centre across our hotel and it is a brasserie. While in France we do prefer brasseries as they usually offer basic French food, beautifully cooked at very reasonable prices. As it was a very hot June evening we ate outside and our waiter Philippe made us most welcome. We had bifteck haché ( minced steak ) and souris d'agneau a l'aïl ( lamb shank with garlic ) with chips, sorry French fries and salad. Plus 2 pichets of rosé wine, l' addition came less than 35 â¬.The weather was brilliant, the atmosphere great, good food, most welcoming service. Thank you Philippe, we will definitely call again on our next visit.
