The restaurant is dimly lit and romantic but the downside is it is not easy to read the menu. We were 5 diners all with a wide experience of Greek cuisine and we needed a long time to decide on what we wanted to eat. The waiter was not helpful and the menu was limited and lacking in some of the Greek classical dishes. We were given the house starters: dry (?stale) bread and 3 accompanying sauces but these did not increase our appetite! When 2 of us ordered mussels, we were told by the waiter that he didn't understand what was meant by white bread and baguettes and that the dry bread was suitable to eat with the mussels. The others took different dishes and our food expert ordered an expensive steak but returned it to the kitchen due to it being over-salted and very undercooked. This is the first time it has happened in all the many restaurants where we have dined together in Crete and normally even sub-normal dishes are not returned. However the wine was good and the setting relaxing. We came last year and found this outstanding restaurant. We returned tonight for a special birthday meal and didnât think last yearâs visit could be topped but how wrong we were. The food was beyond incredible, the staff and service so attentive, passionate and knowledgeable and simply couldnât be more willing to please. Literally the very best meal I have ever eaten. Will definitely be returning for sure!

This was our favourite meal / restaurant in Rethymno - and maybe the best food we had in our 2 weeks in Crete. You could easily walk past La Boheme without realising that there is a beautiful garden courtyard hidden behind the facade. Our "go to" meal in Crete was the local sea bass (or sea bream) with salad - and this really was as good as it gets. Staff were lovely, and the price was really good,especially for the quality and ambiance

Food was very good, We have got free starters and drinks (%). Meal was fantastic, appropriate portions and very good taste. Price ok, standard for this place. Restaurant is located in city center, and what is important during hot days - you can sit down in the shade. Very tasty local cusine. I will be back for sure! Thank you!

Enjoyed a romantic dinner on the 2nd floor of the open air courtyard at Castello. Located in the heart of the old city expect a professionally trained staff and a well prepared meal. Our stuffed mushroom app was delicious. My wife's lamb chops were a little chewy but my beef filet with bacon and mushrooms was perfect. A third floor in the courtyard is also available but is only reachable via a narrow spiral staircase so if you have any mobility issues better to eat downstairs on or the 2nd floor. Tables are also available on the street if you prefer dining in the alley.Prices are a bit higher than some of the other nearby restaurants but Castello is well worth it for the total dining experience.Dear Steven,We are pleased to read that you have spent a nice time with us and you are satisfied with the food and the facilities of our restaurant. My partner and I stayed at Aquila Porto Rethymno which is the adjoining hotel, so decided to have lunch here. I was expecting the atmosphere to be a little stuffy but I was pleasantly surprised.The food was picture perfect and tasted good too. Staff couldn't do enough and the atmosphere was so relaxed.Loved it.

This is one of few places where they know how to make a mojito. Barrio cocktail is my favorite. We were here twice. And ate the same burger. Not noisy even though near heavy traffic road.
