The Priest Hole Restaurant and Tea Rooms are part of Kelsick Old Hall, one of the oldest buildings in the beautiful village of Ambleside in the centre of the English Lake District. With many original features the atmosphere may not be edible, but it does
Been coming here for years and look forward to it every time. Went last night with hubby for anniversary, not sure if it was with being so busy, but it wasnât up to itâs usual high standard. Service was great as always but felt a bit rushed in and out, and had to send hubbyâs game pie back as it was cold - was quickly resolved though, with an apology and a smile. Waitress was lovely.

Lake Road Kitchen is an award winning restaurant in Ambleside in the heart of The Lake District. Our food has been rated 10/10 by the Guardian, and 5/5 by The Sunday Times. Our menus showcase the best meat, fish and shellfish from Northern Europe, home gr
We went for the minimum five courses as our appetites are not what they were!!The stand outs were the Salmon and Cod but the other three were also very nice. There was a slight mix up in that they thought we were vegetarians and we are not! However, the plus side is we got to eat food we would never have ordered! Also with this quality I might just become a vegetarian!!The front of house staff were both very helpful and charming which made for a very pleasant evening. There are only about 20ish covers so book early!!!

Dodds was recommended by our accommodation and did not disappoint. We were made very welcome and the staff were attentive and helpful. There is plenty of choice on the menu - I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled goats cheese (I had never imagined what a delight goats cheese can be when paired with caramelised pear) and home made potato gnocchi (which our waiter advised was his favourite and it quickly became mine too!). My husband thoroughly enjoyed his garlic bread and pizza - which was spicy and well flavoured. Unfortunately we were so full that we didn't have space for a pudding - perhaps next time!

We went to Matthews after a full days hiking with friends. The staff were very welcoming and the service was excellent. The room was full with a good atmosphere. The food was not cheap but not expensive either it was good value and the whole table enjoyed what they had very much. We would return and recommend Matthews.

Lewis's is an unpretentious and rather bare space but a table near the window provides a pleasant view out onto the fields towards Helm Crag. Service is good and the cooking is reliable with copious portions. A straightforward menu with many of the familiar dishes that you see around the gastro-pub/bistro circuit. Nice wine list at reasonable prices. A very safe bet for an evening meal.

Loved loved loved the decor in each room (in fact am taking little notes on the decor in each room as inspiration for my next house), we were an hour early and the wait staff was exceptional in making us comfortable and rested with an early dinner drinks. The Restuarant itself is contemporary yet with warm natural wood accents with a view through the glass balcony doors to the garden. We had the tasting menu and it was extraordinary, loved the flavors and beautiful plating for each.

Being let down by the neighbouring hotel (sadly closing down their restaurant before we arrived) we were so happy to secure 3 evening meals in this beautiful hotel. We were treated to a plethora of the most amazing food, the fresh scallops were particularly scrumptious, completely off the scale! Thanks to Nicki, Bex, and especially Charlotte, we were made to feel very welcome and at home, nothing was too much trouble, and they even sang to me & produced a cake on my Birthday..it was wonderful! I can't think of a better place to eat, it's great value for money and the quality of food & service is second to none. To make it perfect, next year I hope we'll be able to stay in the Grasmere Hotel too and enjoy the complete experience! Five*
