Returned to lovely Gnadenalm for a family fondue last week. We have been there three times before and each time we love the setting, the simple but great fondue and friendly staff. They have been very helpful with our gluten-free requirements at every visit. The place itself is a bit outside Obertauern but easily reached by car or taxi. If you are in Obertauern for a week, Gnadenalm provides a nice break and a bit of an excursion. They have great cross-country skiing daytime. Well recommended!

The Lürzer Steinbock Restaurant in Obertauern is beautifully situated in the Austrian alpine landscape. Recipes rich in tradition are prepared with great finesse and passion â absolutely free of any modern add-ons. Our guests love our natural food, and we
We went to eat dinner at the Steinbock restaurant in the Edelweiss Hotel and were pleasantly surprised, the decor is great, the service really good and the food is outstanding. There is a very nice bar area to wait before your meal. There are two sittings, at 18:00 & 20:30. Worth a visit.

Hotel's restaurant
This is an Austrian specialty! Only order it in places that state it is house made (Hausgemachter). Kaiserschmarm is breadpudding made with pancakes and served with compotes. The version here offered my favorite: amarena/kirsch or tart cherries! We ate the apple/pear and the stewed plum sauce too. Sandwiches and burgers (kids!) were excellent.

Excellent food, we stopped here for lunch 3 times in one week. Very quick service, food came almost instantly so no wasting time getting back on the slopes. Great music from 3.30pm each day. Big terrace for sitting out in the sun. Easy blue run down so doesn't matter if you have a few beers!

We had baked potatoes, wholesome side salads, one person had a pasta dish. Everyone happy. Nice atmosphere and decor on keeping with the alps. I will come back.

I had dinner here one night recently while on a ski vacation with 5 friends. Freiwild was recommended by the hotel I stayed at, and it was a very easy walk from our hotel, so we gave it a shot.As noted in my review title, Freiwild has a more diverse menu than the traditional schnitzel and wurst staples that one often finds in Austria and Germany. One of my friends had an asian curry dish, I opted for a shrimp and spaghetti meal. The ambiance and decor were great, I would call it modern traditional for Austria (if that makes sense?). The service was attentive and very friendly, and the presentation of the meals themselves was upscale and appealing. But in the end, the food was pretty average. It's great if you're looking for a break from the Obertauern norm, but I thought the dishes could have been sharper and more flavorful.

Our group had lunch on this restaurant's last day of the ski season. We were glad we did. The main restaurant inside has a warm ambiance, the meals ordered were delicious and hit the spot. The service was efficient. There is a large outdoor seating area as well where you can eat or have a beer while watching skiers ski by.
