Ancora d'Ouro is situtaed at the corner of an intersection in Stone Town and is very popular with locals and tourists alike for all meals and coffee. The menu is basic but delicious specials are on the wall board. Tasty thin-crust pizzas. Very basic but relaxing interior. There's a guy who sells cool local jewellery and artifacts in a corner near the counter. Nice staff and good service. Competitively priced. Enjoy a drink sitting outside at the front watching local life pass by. Was our go-to hangout in Ilha.

We unfortunately missed the very famous roof terrace as we visited the place on a rainy day. The inside of the restaurant is decorated in the traditional style of the Island. The menu is not extremely diversified, but the available dishes are good. The music is excellent. The night we visited the owner passed by the tables several times without greeting his guests and the staff lacked enthusiasm, which killed the atmosphere that could have been otherwise pleasant. The restaurant is only opened at night.

The seafood here is absolutely delicious; so fresh you can taste the individual flavour of each variety, not just a general "fishy" taste. Served with garlic & butter, salad and coconut rice or fries and nicely presented at a formal table. The terrace on the seafront is a beautiful setting, I doubt you could do better on Ilha. (In fact we noticed a table of local ex-pats dining here, so that's a recommendation in itself). Prices were comparable to, if not less than, the 3 or 4 other places we checked out, so don't go to somewhere more expensive with less ambiance, when the food is so tasty here!Thank you for your kind words. We try hard to take advantage of being located in an island to serve fresh seafood. We are happy to see that we are getting good results on our work :)
