Welcome to La Vieille Auberge, a French cuisine restaurant "House" undeniable charm: exposed beams and grinding stones, a magnificent fireplace enthroned at the bottom of the large room, and especially summer garden (terrace), from the opening appearance
We took a business acquaintence here for an improptu lunch so no reservation was made. We were seated immediately, given a varied menu and a glass of good country red. The portions are very generous and are also very good. The steak tartare is one of the best I have ever tasted, packed with gherkins, capers, onions, delicious beef and it packed a small punch too - always a good thing. The dining rooms are full of character, beams exposed with a lovely mixture of antique chairs. It is simple yet practical. There are plenty of verges to park on and it's on the corner of the main road so isn't too tricky to locate. It was a great find and is the perfect stop-off - we'd certainly recommend it.

I had a coffee at Le Saint Jean and as it was a warm and sunny day I sat outside on its terrace. The waiter appeared the moment I sat down and he was most friendly. He heard my friend and I speak English and so he inserted a few words of English into his greeting. I highly recommend that when you visit Melun to pop into Le Saint Jean.

We chose to eat at one of the tables in the square outside L'Atelier des Saveurs and enjoyed the local neighbourhood-type environment on a pleasant late-spring evening. Our meal was tasty and satisfying. My husband had the "menu": Entrecote with Bourgignonne sauce and sauteed potatoes, and home made icecreams which we shared. I had (six) scallops (St Jacques), nicely presented, with a puree of celeriac. We were both given a small, delicious 'amuse bouche' of hot puree of baby peas. Service was attentive and the price reasonable.

Had a 3 course meal in the cellar. Very nice experience. Excellent food. Art piece look on all courses. Service good. Will try again later.

The food here is traditional french cuisine........went with my brother and girlfriend for lunch. The wait staff are friendly as is the owner. Great atmosphere....check out the lower level. A good wine list either by the bottle or glass. I would recommend this place for a nice lunch.

The menu selection is not huge, but certainly adequate. We both found very good choices which we enjoyed in the ambiance of the outdoors in the square. The wait staff were superb and smiling and the prices were certainly competitive. We'd go back again!

Quiet, private location inside a traditional cottage. Modern, well lit, inviting interior and pleasant atmosphere. Very comfortable seating. The service was extremely efficient and attentive. High scores for the quality and presentation of food (see attached pics), the fish preparation was spectacular. Very good wine list. Highly recommended - a great way to spend an evening when you're in the area.

We ate here for lunch. The place is a small, quaint restaurant built into the adjacent homes and other businesses on a very quiet street in a lovely small town. The maitresse d' is a lovely, attractive, smartly dressed lady, whom we surmise is the owner (my French guest concurred). The restaurant is quite lovely; a little bit tavern with its exposed ceiling timbers, and a little elegant with its lovely curtains, and if it classed up its wall sconces just a bit, could be even better. The place very clean and is obviously loved. We had a full day planned, so we decided just to have an entre. I had a trio of meats including a delightful beef filet, a terrine of pork and duck breasts. This was served with roasted vegetables, and liqeur-infused grapes. My wife had a wonderful beef fillet topped with foie gras. Everything was cooked to perfection and elegantly served. The portions were generous -- best we hadn't gotten appetizers. We drank a lovely Meursault (the more expensive of the two (about E70), which was one of the best whites we had in France the whole week. Glassware was immaculate. The service was relaxed and gentile. The food was inexpensive by European standards especially for what you got.If you're visiting the Vaux le Vicomte 10 minutes away, this is the place to eat -- outstanding and a relative bargain!
