Eight of us camped here for the night in our motorhomes. We checked at the desk that they'd still be serving food at 7pm - no problem. We skipped the starters because we were looking forward to the apple strudel and the main courses looked hearty. The fresh trout was delicious but took time to eat due to bones. At 8.15 we ordered more wine then asked for menus only to be told the kitchen closed at 8 pm! When we protested we were offered ice cream but none of the other desserts were available. We were annoyed that we had not been warned earlier - certainly we would not have taken the second round of wine, had we known we would have to drink it without food.

It's the only restaurant at the ski station. The food is good, pre - prepared so limited in quantity; make sure you're on time. Also around 13:00 there's huge queue. The choice is fair and so are the prices. Breathtaking view almost all around from the tables.

Stopped at this Gasthaus for a rest while out on a walking trip. It was a very warm day, so everyone was outside enjoying the sunshine. As a result, we had to wait some time for service, but given the numbers and the warm weather, this was not a problem. Food was good and beer equally so! We didn't stay at the guesthouse, so unfortunately cannot comment on that aspect.

Every day on our ski trip me and my wife went there to drink gluhwine and espresso and we sit outside on super comfortable chairs with sheep skins....

waiting for 1 hour for a simple pizza and pasta. In my pizza was a large piece of sharp plastic. if I would have swallowed it i would now have been in hospital! The taste of the pizza was not very good compared to a real italian pizza from, for example , La Puccia in Grado Italy. But of course that is a matter of taste. I can not recomment the pizza nor the pasta which had a verry thin taste. Curious was that the waitress talked to us with a german-italian accent, but to some local girls without any accent at all. As compensation my pizza was not added to the bill.

Well apparently this is not the right place looking for Michelin Star kind of kitchen. But if you are looking for Austria's traditional dishes you are at the right place. You find a selection of dishes freshly cooked from fresh ingredients and well served. Vegetables and meat are cooked to the right point as ordered. Typically you have to watch out as in particular the dishes served in pans are really hot out if the stove. Size of the dishes goes ok even if you are hungry after hiking or skiing - though don't expect oversized portion - it is just about right. The service is really nice and and very fast. If you are showing up with some more people, a lager family or so, they just try to get you seated as nice as possible, if space is left. And for the smaller ones they have kids menus available. Wine card I've not tested. Price of the dishes are very fair and affordable. Interior style is the kind of "Austrian rustique" - which is not my personal favor but it is all nice and clean. Situated is the restaurant left from the Main Street if you go downhill but you have to watch out for the signs. Good thing it is still in heart of Matrei and even after a few more beer there is no need for a car as it is walking distance to any place within Matrei.

Great place for traditional Austrian food. Atmosphere is fantastic service as it has to be. Prices are more then reasonable and above all they can deal perfectly with bigger groups.
