This is a great place to experience the Basque French rural area -- this is truly a local place supported by locals and not at all a tourist stop. The food is limited but is fresh and delicious. The place is clean and the service great.

We enjoyed the restaurant's ambiance, food and service. It was lunch time so the place was packed but it didn't feel like it. The service was very good, friendly, and the food was very tasty. The artisan burger is delicious! And the torrija with coffee ice cream is a must. Totally going back!

This restaurant shows what personal management and loving care can do for a big old "caserio" and transform it into a superb setting, particularly the terrace which used to be their chicken coop. You are welcome by an extremely friendly and knowledgeable host that is member of this family who has owned the property for several generations. He also manages the staff and it is pure poetry to see them work discretely and efficiently. We chose a la carte as the menu would be too much when we were in somewhat of a hurry to make a la later escapade to nearby Saint Jean de Luz.After an excellent amuse bouche we ordered their stir fried foie gras in chick pea broth and cabbage and their mushroom with egg yolks and foie gras flan; both outstanding choices for starters . For main, we chose their special of cod ajoarriero ( a Naverrese specialty- and a nod to San Fermin feasts in relatively nearby Pamplona) with lobster and the roasted turbo in sherry sauce and mini leeks and artichokes. Definitively outstanding in flavor and presentation, indeed the ajoarriero had more lobster than cod and from the fish we ate even the crisp skin. Their dessert with their own version of cheesecake with berries was nothing like standard restaurants call cheesecake this thin version from local dairy ingredients was just amazing. The whole was accompanied by selections of homemade breads. Their wine selection was excellent and at good prices considering quality .

Its not often that i eat lunch at a restaurant 2 days in a row ,but made an exception here as the food is fantastic.Had the Fish in red peppers as starter followed by the fish of the day and the 3 assorted mini deserts( Brulee,Chocolate cake, cheesecake). On the 2nd day had the Ham platter followed by the Duck and large Creme Brulee. Without exception the food was perfectly cooked and beautifully accompanied By potato dauphinoise and stunning Plum sauce with the duck. The service was great, couldnt fault it, oh and wait the price was â¬22 each inc. wine! This lovely located Restaurant does the simple things simple. Its so easy to get a creme brulee wrong, and this was by far the best i have ever eaten. Its not easy to find(signposted from bottom of Sare village) but boy is it worth finding!

The atmosphere at the Jardins de Bakea is both chic and relaxed. The restaurant is now one of the best places to eat in the Basque Country and opens out onto a magnificent shady terrace in the summer. In the kitchen: Eric Duval, whose cooking gets straigh
The best steak I've ever had. Some items were pricy, but I felt the meal was very good value for the excellent standard. What a chef! Tarte tatin was the best I've tasted too, and the pumpkin soup was out of this world. There is a choice of set menus and a la carte. A little too much of the foie gras and veal for my taste, but this is local cuisine and what you would expect. Wonderful

We arrived to our accommodation tired and hungry and our hosts recommended Trinquet Pleka, only a short walk from Chalet Elisa. On realising our limited French the chef came out to personally explain the menu. We elected to have entree, main and dessert/cheese which all sounded fabulous. Chef said he would also bring us a small serve of lentil soup each which was yummy but filling. Our eyes were bigger than our tummies but there was no problem changing / reducing the order for our dessert/cheese course. The food was all beutifully fresh, local (Basque) or traditional (French) and the service was friendly and the courses arrived nicely spaced out. The place was filled with locals and the bar in the next room was busy and happily noisy. It is also possible to get simple fare including a hamburger but all made on site including the bread.

Located next to the road from Irun to Pamplona you might expect the typical truck driver stop, but in fact it is a small hotel with cafeteria, outside sitting area and two restaurants, one âa la carteâ and the other one serving daily menus, starting from 1pm until 3:30pm.I tried the daily menu section, and was pleasantly surprised by the choice offered (about 6 different starters and 6 different main courses plus 6 or 7 different desserts to choose from).I had a salad with fried bacon and mushrooms as a starter and a tuna steak as a main course, both was delicious and came in abundant quantity, leaving almost no space for the dessert.Price for the menu including drinks but no coffee is 12⬠during weekdays which is a bit above the average 10⬠which you are expected to pay in this area. On Saturdays and Sundays it is more expensive.Service was friendly and efficient, there were three waiters for about 15 tables, you pay at the exit as you leave.A good option when you are travelling and looking for a decent place for lunch along the road, with ample parking space.
