We were delighted to discover this pub in le Lude. The fish was very good indeed, the chips were passable and the welcome was genuinely warm and friendly. We will definitely return and look forward to trying out their live music/eat on terrasse events when it gets a bit warmer!

The best restaurant in Le Lude and a good place for a meal. The menus offer a choice of four or five dishes for each course, each one having a special romantic name (which is bit of a pain if you are in a larger group and trying to remember what you ordered!). The cooking is very good although we felt the flavours could have been a little more pronounced; the sandre (river fish) was very overcooked and the rabbit rather tasteless although the cuisson was spot-on. The gaspacho and snail starter elicited wildly mixed reviews but the steak with a soft cheese sauce, the rougets, the grilled prawns with cinnamon were all excellent. The pigeon dish was superb but the kidneys and sweetbreads were not at all as described. All the desserts were terrific and the wine list featured good local Loir and Loire whites in the €20-25 range.

Auberge des Isles

This quaint restaurant sits right on the river and there is eating outside with the river view, or inside. It is pertinent to book, and helpful, as on spec guests can cause the restauranteur to panic somewhat. It may appear that she is rather brusque and stern, but she is actually very sweet and helpful when not under pressure. The food is excellent and, if you are eating, you are given a little canapé of salmon mousse before your order. The staff speak a little English but it helps if you know some French. It is a lovely setting and can be quite an experience if it is busy; it put me in mind of Fawlty Towers, in the nicest possible way.

Managed to get a table for 2 on a Saturday night around 7:30pm with no booking. We were exhausted from travelling and just wanted something quick. The waitress seated us outside near the door to the restaurant. Cute spot although the smell of stubbed cigarettes spoiled it somewhat. My French is limited but I managed to order drinks and a meal. We waited and waited and waited. Soft drink for OH turned up, my wine didn’t. The food finally turned up (we both had pizza). Had to prompt for the wine. Food was tasty and filling. Wine was good. The waitress came across as a sourpuss to me. She was busy but it doesn’t hurt to smile. A few days later we decided to try them again. Having seen people turned away and this being only one of a few restaurants open for dinner in the evening, I booked a table in advance. We were seated outside and ordered an aperitif, soft drink, pizza and meat with frites. Service was quicker this time but it was a lot quieter being mid-week. Food was lovely once again but I got the most bemused look when I tried to order another aperitif (the best I had). Instead I received a small glass of rose. The waitress didn’t crack a smile all night so I sent my OH in to pay the bill as I couldn’t face her. Didn’t return.

Difficult to summarise in a few words. We booked on the back of some previous reviews we had seen primarily around the food rather than accommodation. On arrival the auberge is situated right on the River Loire and looks so quaint. We are shown up the stairs to our room and given a choice - we elected to look out over the river for the view. The rooms are possibly slightly dated but very French in décor. Certainly very clean and tidy. The bathroom was fine too.Dinner turned out to be amazing. From the moment we tasted the amuse bouch we knew that we would enjoy this. There is a choice of two starters, three mains, an optional cheese course and three desserts - some might say that is limited, but I found it much easier to decide what to eat! We loved it. The wine list was also good with some quality at not too expensive prices.Breakfast was also a very positive experience but we were already a bit full from the previous night..........Thank you so much for your kind comment . We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel and took the time to share your satisfaction . We thank you for your kindness and looking forward to receiving you again we wish you a nice day.
