We dined here twice and were not disappointed. An imaginative cook with the idea of making use of everything, also left-overs, to create tasty dishes makes this a truly environmental-friendly restaurant. The cooking is of a high standard and the food very good. One evening an ourdoor- barbecued lamb, the next a tapas-inspired local menu. Outdoor seating in a nice garden, and indoor in a setting with nice ambience. friendly and helpful staff. Ace.

The restaurant at Stora Karlso is open from 08.00 every day and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the entire summer. The premises is situated in the beautiful cove of Norderhamn on the island's northern shores. During evenings the dinner is se
The restaurant is beautifully situated near the ferry harbor. We pre-ordered our lunch and went on an excellent 2.5 hours guided tour around the island. Returning with good appetite we picked up a starter from the plain but generous salad table, added crisp bread, and collected our main course from a window to the kitchen. The salmon and the mackerel were particularly tasty dishes. There was also a vegetarian option.Beer, wine and soft drinks could be purchased from the separate lobby kiosk, which also displayed pastries and ice cream. For an island monopoly in Sweden, the prices are very reasonable.

The Cafe advertises online and at the street entrance that the cafe menu is available "all days 10-16." The website details hot food, salads and sandwiches. On July 1, and exactly 15:00, we tried to place a hot lunch order, but were simply told that "the kitchen just closed." We made reference to the advertisement, and were flatly told "it is wrong." (Then it is still wrong today, 16 days later). We pleaded for a sandwich, but were told "no." We left hungry and disappointed. They say that "If there is a will there is a way" but here there obviously was not a will to cater for two hungry guests who had been misled by their advertisement. My advice: call ahead to check on the kitchen before you go. The place is beautifully located, with large windows out to a nice view, and with stylish interior, so you will enjoy it--if you are served. That brings up my rating to just "poor."
