Find out what European restaurants to try in Kaunas. Kaunas (/ˈkaʊnəs/; Lithuanian: [ˈkɐʊˑnɐs] ( listen); also see other names) is the second-largest city in Lithuania and has historically been a leading centre of Lithuanian economic, academic, and cultural life. Kaunas was the biggest city and the centre of a county in Trakai Municipality of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania since 1413. In the Russian Empire, it was the capital of the Kaunas Governorate from 1843 to 1915. It served as temporary capital of Lithuania during the interwar period, while the traditional capital of Vilnius was part of Poland between 1920 and 1939. During that period Kaunas has been nicknamed the Little Paris because of rich cultural and academic life, fashion, construction of countless Art Deco, Lithuanian National Romanticism architectural style buildings as well as popular furniture, interior design of the time and widespread café culture. The city interwar architecture is regarded as one of the finest examples of the European Art Deco and received the European Heritage Label, it also resulted in naming Kaunas the first city in Central and Eastern Europe as a UNESCO City of Design. In 2022, Kaunas will be the European Capital of Culture, together with the Luxembourgish city of Esch-sur-Alzette.

,,Medziotojų uzeiga", the oldest restaurant in Kaunas, is situated in the very heart of Kaunas - Town Hall square. The guests of the restaurant are treated with exceptional game meat dishes since 1965. The main goal of the restaurant is to use only fresh
Superbly prepared game dishes. Pretty good wine list. Lovely venue with a pleasant summer terrace out front on the main square.Service is friendly, but unbelievably SLOWWW. I'll say it again; the service is non-anticipatory and unresponsive. I had to get up from my seat on a few occasions to ask for service.Do come for the food, but don't expect much from the servers.

Lately, I'm lucky to have a good restaurant :-) And this Tratoria is among them.Again, if in Italian restaurants (in generally) outside Italy come the Italians, it will be good :-) ... like here.Do not forget to book a table. If you arrive at 5 o'clock then OK. But after 6 o'clock it is already full. The service is very professional even though I would welcome a little more warmth. And food? Well, perfect !!I must say that this Italian Tratoria is one of the few outside of Italy, which is really an Italian :-))

Re-opened in May of 2014, restaurant UOKSAS represents contemporary, seasonal and creative cuisine. Simple, unpretentious and modern, rough interior is warmed with cozy wooden details and lush of greens. Suitable for upscale or casual everyday dining.
Next door to a notorious night/strip club - be aware of this when taking your significant other there. Creative yet reasonably short menu, generous alcohol servings (5cl of vodka/gin/calvados and 15cl of wine), not all wines from their rather limited wine list always available.Great friendly service, good English spoken and just the right attitude.Being good value for money Uoksas was completely full on an ordinary Wednesday night - booking in advance is a good idea.Chairs seem to be plastic covered with something "posh" - not comfy for a longer evening. They serve you a honeycomb with your (tasty herbal) tea, "honey with wax" as they put it - do not put this into your tea directly, rather enjoy your tea with honeycomb as a small side dish.

I love the fact that this is a family restaurant, there are not many such restaurants in Kaunas. Also, the patience of the waitresses was made of steel. The cellar was nicely done with a playroom, preoccupying kids, and it was nice to sit and chat with friends, despite a slight odor from the restrooms. However, first and foremost this is a restaurant, and we come here for food (Although if there was no playroom, we would have never chosen this place.) This review will be entirely about food, as other things were top-notch. I knew it was a pizzeria, but I have not ordered them, and maybe it was my mistake, and I would not be surprised if many come there just for pizzas. We ordered food so it would fit the kid's taste, and since they were small, we avoided pizzas. I ordered dumplings for my kids and my husband adult dumplings for himself. Guess what, the adult dumplings were basically the same as kids', only a few broccoli was on top of it. The taste suggested they're not homemade, and the price was much higher than the kid's dumplings. Since the kids, who usually loved them, now didn't even touch them, I ordered these curd thingies with jam, I don't know how to call in English. Again, the price did not match the size and the ingredients used in the meal. Sadly, there was not much choice from the menu, besides pizzas. All in all, we paid 30 euros and left hungry, and not even happy about the food we had.

This venue situated on a quiet street near the Kaunas centre is definitely worth visiting. Stylish design, wonderful food and excellent service - special thanks to Raimond. It was surprise for me that they could cook risotto with mushrooms cost perfetto - like in Tuscany. Next time in Kaunas will come there for sure.

ABOUT US These days, not even a GPS can help the serious eater navigate the maze of restaurants. So we thought â why make it complicated? We do what we know best, and we know a great deal. Chef and owner of MOMO GRILL Vytautas SamaviÄius is widely known f
Only made one visit (so far) but found this to be a good place. Spacious interior so you are not sitting close to the next table listening to their conversation. Service was excellent as the young waiter was most attentive and helpful. Main meal (cod)was tasty but the desert (panacota) was too sweet for our liking. Was getting very busy by the time we left in early evening.

Really good local pizza, without any of the rampant pretense of pseudo-Italian or American style so popular in Lithuania. These folks aren't pretending to be something they aren't. It's local pizza, very local and made in typical Lithuanian style with tons of toppings. Except it's delicious! It's not like some big brand slop which won't be named, but really tasty pizza with big portion sizes and quick service. The thickness of the pizza isn't paper thin either! Big win for the local market.Thank you very much!â¤ï¸
