Casa Velha

Placed in a boring town square in a cafeteria ambience with TVs running in the background and lovely social inclusive serving, we had the most delicious lunch. The servings are full doses for 3 at around 15€, the wine list is truly fabulous and very reasonably priced (maybe more Rosés though) and the noise levels are not too bad.Unfortunately the calf tongue was unavailable so we had the most tasty fresh cod filets with clam tomato rice and a pork pernil, which was just the most tender and tasty EVER. We chose a Douro white Exlibris Baco 2015 for the steal of €13, which was absolutely fabulous with both plates.Fruits and chocolate mousse for dessert and excellently served coffee, made our day.We will be back!

O Burgo

Lovely food and excellent wine in busy, atmospheric restaurant. Our only criticism was that all the delicious food was served on cold plates and so the food did not retain its heat. Owner/manager please ensure that your serving dishes are hot and that plates are at least warm! !!

Ti Lena

In Talasnal for the night, we dropped in on Ti Lena, pretty much the only restaurant in this amazing Schist Village and were given the last two seats in the cozy dining room. Here is why we were lucky.Ti Lena is operated by two hard-working women. They shop, they prepare, the cook, they serve and the clean-up. What they will serve is local, home-made (of course) and served family style. We had young goat with side dishes of potatoes with chestnuts and a rice dish prepared with some type of minced organ meat. This was our first goat-experience and it was unique, savory and tasty. The potatoes with chestnuts were flavored with garlic and, alone would have been sufficient. The rice dish was also flavorful and satisfying. A local red wine was served in a small ceramic carafe and was plenty for the two of us. We passed on the salad and dessert. The service was efficient and gracious. In addition, the dinner was a great value at 36€ for the two of us.Come dinner time, your options in Talasnal are limited. Fortunately, you have an excellent one. But, don't plan on finding a seat unless you have made reservations.

A Grelha-Restaurante

We were staying nearby and our hotel hosts recommended we come here for dinner. The meal was nice from start to finish. We began with some tuna pate, olives, and bread- all which were good. We shared the baked octopus and spareribs. Both were delicious. The spareribs were perfectly seasoned and not dry at all. It came with a quarter of a pineapple (super fresh) and fried potatoes. The octopus was meaty and cooked in a garlic oil with delicious potatoes and veggies. We ended with the lemon dessert, which was a cross between a cheesecake and mousse. If you are passing by, stop in! Also, if you do not speak Portuguese, come with your dictionary handy!

Over charged heftily for a tiny, limp salad we were told had been part of the dish at the outset. Flies buzzing around the place and no other diners. Ate there as we try to support local restaurants when holidaying. In this case the proprietor clearly wanted nothing more than to rip off foreign visitors in any way he could. Later learned that his restaurant is to be avoided at all costs.

Sitting under one of the historic bridges of Gois right on the Peneda/ Pego Escuro river beach is a wonderful experience during the day, and even better at night. They have a broad menu all seemingly hand cooked, with a good drinks menu. Definitely on the list of things to do in Gois.

Alvaro's

A good restaurant with traditional food

Alvaro's was recommended to us by a local bar owner and we went there several times. The menu is traditional Portuguese, my personal favourite being the fresh fish that was always cooked to perfection! The value for money was outstanding and Alvaro was a very attentive host. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Gois.

The place is nice, the pizzas are good, the service was not even close for reasonable.Me and my family entered the place which had all the tables taken, and no one came to us for long minutes to ask us anything!! We sat there like fools for a while.Than one of the waiters suggested that we would take a table outside as inside was to crowded, we agreed. The food was served almost an hour later. Not really the best experience for us.

Exploring this part of Portugal for the first time we landed up in Coja and found this wonderful little place with both inside tables and a terrace that overlooks the river. A different eating experience that we really enjoyed. The owner, her son and the the staff were all lovely and we left with several of the home made jams made by the grandmother. We will be back ... Boa tarde,Agradecemos o vosso amável comentário...Esperamos ver-vos de novo, em breve.Até Jááá!
