Find out what European restaurants to try in Ghent. Belgium's fourth-largest - and most beautiful - city is home to a quarter of a million people and a flourishing flower export trade. An important port, Ghent's city center is a pedestrian area that is like a museum to early Flemish architecture and a testament to the city's medieval might. Impressive Gothic sites, such as dramatic St. Bavo's Cathedral and the Castle of the Counts, inspire awe. The works of Flemish masters are housed in the distinguished Museum voor Schone Kunst.

Restaurant Du Progres is a real family restaurant. Nowadays, the third generation of the family De Baets commits to giving their clientele the best value for money. The restaurant serves unadulterated Belgian classics and is famous for its mashed potatoes
A great location if a little touristy but hey, you're in the centre of this stunning city so it's no surprise. The restaurant choices are almost limitless - we chose Du Progres by T/A reviews and had a very pleasant evening here. The menu is quite wide and diverse so something for most tastes - I chose the simmental steak which was really excellent, a high quality piece of meat and exceptionally tender. The wine list is quite small while the beer list quite large, not unusual for Belgium but we did find a nice Cote du Rhone. The service was very good, nothing too much trouble and despite being busy it was also quite fast. Definitely recommend this restaurant.Dear David R,thank you for sharing your review on trip advisor. We are happy to read that you enjoyed your visist to our restaurant as well as you liked our beautiful city Ghent.Hopefully we can have you again as our guest sometime in the future.kind regards,Johan

Located in the heart of Ghent, Otium is the place to be for fine Italian dining while immersed in a great atmosphere. As soon as you walk in, you're welcomed by the lovely staff who will go above and beyond to deliver you the best culinary experience when exploring the wide variety of Italian food, downtown Ghent. Next to the fixed menu staples such as the 'amatriciana estiva' or 'costelle di agnello', Otium serves new suggestions every day, combining the freshest ingredients to deliver an explosion of flavors on your plate. The restaurant offers a range of good wines to pair with each dish, and you don't need to hesitate to ask any recommendations in case you're in doubt: they're always on point. Otium is my go-to Italian restaurant for any occasion, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a night of great conversations and accompanying food.

We wish you a warm welcome...
This restaurant is in a nice location in the Patershol area of Ghent. It is a charming historic building. On the evening we visited the front of house was run entirely by one very pleasant lady. The menu is on a chalkboard that is brought to the table and then read to you. My partner and I both found this difficult as we had different memories of what was on the menu.We ended up having the four course menu which was really too much food for us. The food was all excellent in particular the main pheasant course was delightful.

Quiet expensive but the fixed lunch-menu is very good price/quality. Very friendly personal and very relaxed. Very nice lunch-menu full off surprises and refinements. You need to make a reservation.

Nice young couple recently took it over and made a great little restaurant!
A very basic but high quality menu, you get the choice of extending the three main courses to five, which we did, and left very content. Especially with the additional wine pairings. The restaurant is exceptionally well run, the food is fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Highlights for me were the langoustine ravioli and lemon sorbet tart.

An address with a unique character, the art deco interior is filled with everything Chanel. Freddy, the owner and host, made us feel very welcomed, explained the restaurant and cuisine, and advised us based upon our tastes. The house specialty is lobster. We had three different preparations between the four of us. It was all fantastic, delicious and a nice holiday treat.

Agree 100% with the rave reviews here. Only one nuance to add: some sites say this is a âvegetarianâ restaurant, but that is not true. It is vegetarian FRIENDLY (as correctly stated here on trip advisor), meaning they can serve vegetarians well. They have veggie versions of dishes that are not just the same thing with the animal protein taken away. Anyway, awesome food in a simple relaxed atmosphere for surprisingly little money. We were blown away.

Discover a centuries-old building, constructed in Louis XIV style and steps away from Ghentâs historic city centre. The former residence was once a rendezvous for the cityâs poets and philosophers. Today, it is home to the newly designed LOF Restaurant, i
I was invited and didnât know what to expect. The description of the dishes were surprising and I finally ha a gravad laks which was nice but a cheesecake from seabass that was unforgettable. Worth trying.

We had a nice experience at the restaurant in their previous location and decided to pay them another visit. Bad decision. It seems the management changed too, as the service was below decent expectations: passive-aggressive waiters, long delays, medium-low quality of service. Food was not what we expected, and we tried almost all categories.
