We love visiting the historic Hotels of Switzerland, constructed a century or so ago, to soak up the wonderful atmosphere of how life must have been at the "belle epoque" just before WW1 changed life forever.Usually we expect a bella vista site and a dramatic construction full of towers and turrets of neo classic vistorian follies, but mediocre food and ambience.Imagine the surprise arriving on the terrace of the Kurhaus on a beautiful sunny day in July to find one of the most spectacular views of Mt. Collon. The pleasure mounted on finding a menu with french, italian, and of course Swiss dishes including freshly made in house pasta, pesto and other delicacies, matched by an adequate wine list for the occasion at prices that would not discourage us from coming a second time.In fact it was so good that we went back a week later to check out whether we had been dreaming, or our first impressions were correct. The second visit coincided with a book fair organised to encourage visitors to the hotel and restaurant. The only thing that suffered was the excellent service of the first visit, because this time the restaurant was full and the friendly personnel had not been increased sufficiently to cope. This was the only drawback we found, so choose the timing of your visit between slow service if you are a book fan, or avoid the special attractions if you just want to enjoy surprisingly good cuisine in a world class alpine setting far from the major touristic venues. ( 45 kms from Sion on twisty but good alpine roads, which require 4x4 or similar in the 4 month winter snow period.

Settngs change each season - terrace in the summer and cosy chalet in winter - but the food remains the same great cooking - especially to recommend the cordon bleu, made from veal and highly recommended (check availability calling ahead) - the raclette is also very nice with the local cheese, made on wood fire, especially in summer, while sitting on the terrace - booking recommended.

Stopped in for some dinner and found a very clean and comfortable atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. A nice menu with many options and lots many items made with locally grown everything. This is worth considering.

camping de montagne avec des infrastructures de qualité, situé au coeur du val d'Hérens au pieds de montagnes majestueuses, parmi lesquelles la Dent Blanche et les Veisivis. une expérience inoubliable
Two bedrooms - one double and one with bunks & a single. Clean, comfortable and well equipped. Good shower. Balcony with outdoor furniture.Lovely, quiet site. Swimming pool a real treat for the kids. Nice little playground too. Restaurant on site very handy. Shop on site sells essentials (pasta, bread and ice cream!)All staff really friendly and very patient with our poor French.Ten minute walk to supermarket, boulangerie, fromagerie & boucherie. 40 minute walk along river to Evolene with bigger supermarket.Lots of fantastic walks from the site.Drive to Arolla and walk to the glacier.Thank you! We had a lovely time.

We followed the recommendation from a local and walked into the restaurant, located in an old hostel. The decor reminds of a modern chalet, lacks a little bit of true atmosphere, but you know you are in the mountains, especially as many locals seem to settle here for food or drinks. The menu spans large, from pizza and salad, to more seasonal game and nice meat.We decided for cheese dishes and we found it fairly good, but not fully convinced. I guess that we need to try the meat, as it seems to be the specialty of the house.Service was friendly and the owner comes frequently to discuss and check all is fine.

Great un pretentious place where you can sample excellent meats. The signature dish is the cordon bleu, which is sizeable and nicely cooked, served generously with fries and vegetables. They also do an excellent tournedos, thick and juicy and the meat is cooked to order. We have not sampled their fondue, but can only assume that it is just as good as the rest.

We came for dinner one evening and chose to sit outside on a warm summers night. Blankets were available for anyone finding the air to cool. This is a lovely old restaurants with an open fire/grill outside and featuring traditional furniture and decoration. We ordered the traditional raclette and a couple of other local dishes and were served promptly and efficiently. Subsequent servings took a little bit of time. We were expecting a few more trimmings with the raclette, but the cheese was outstanding. The polenta with rabbit was very tasty and a huge portion of meat - very yummy. While the service was efficient, we found it slightly impersonal. But the big surprise was that when we asked for the bill, the initial price was reduced as we had eaten less raclette portions than initially intended and the restaurant dropped the price accordingly. We found this a very generous and honest gesture towards their clients. Thank you.

Evolene is an unspoilt traditional Swiss village and somewhere we have been going back to on and off for many years. La Paix is an unassuming friendly bar and restaurant whose owners always have a smile and a greeting for you. They have accommodated us on more than one occasion when we have turned up late or without a booking and in spite of the fact that we speak very little French have always done their best to make us feel welcome and to help us middle through when ordering and choosing our meals. The food is good hearty traditional Swiss fair. The fondues are a must as is the plats Valisienne. Excellent service, excellent staff, chilled out dining in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere - what more could a weary hiker want!

We do go regularly to this restaurant whenever in Evolène - the service is very friendly, Veronique and her team welcomes us warmly and the food is excellent - the new chef has now taken his marks and offers the local delicacies (beef, lamb, cheese) with his touch. Worthy of note is also the very reasonable wine list with some good local producers. And in summer, a great terrace with a view on the Dent de Veisivi - do book ahead for a table there on week-ends.Dear Vittorio FMy team joins me in thanking you very much for your kind comment. We do our best to satisfy our kind customers.Looking forward to welcoming you back to our establishment.See you soon !

Our concept is clear and simple: in-house production of traditional and high fermentation beers, in a place especially set up for this purpose. Les BRASSEURSâ focus on love of the brewing industry and craft of traditional products, creating nostalgic tast
A beer brewery type pub/restaurant located in the centre of Sion (where every second house is a vineyard and every third house is a beer brewery). Staple food, well cooked, nicely served, good pizzas, some Valaisin specialties but nothing extraordinary. Clean but not much by way of décor or ambiance. However, the home brewed beer on tap is excellent and very reasonably priced. A "safe" place at which to enjoy a quiet dinner on a business trip.
