It was once just a dive bar called Rudys in the 80's. Now a bar restaurant across from the cemetery. Still a dive but the food is fabulous now that it is a Portuguese restaurant. All I have had is the salmon, my friends had the chicken and the cod. They both enjoyed it also. And the salmon is $16.00
This. Restaurant. Is. Ah-mazing. Totally unpretentious, with absolutely delicious food, and a warm, friendly atmosphere. I was stuck at an all-weekend conference in an airport hotel near the Newark airport and we needed a place for dinner. The food was sooooo good at this place, next time I am coming to New York, I will consider flying into Newark so I can eat here before I head into the city. I was with a party of 8 and everyone was pleased with their meal. The service was impeccable and friendly too. I ordered the fish stew with rice - absolutely gorgeous seafood (scallops, prawns) in a light, perfectly seasoned broth. It was enough for two but I ate the whole thing. A colleague ordered a paella, also fantastic. Several others ordered steak dishes and loved them. Good, inexpensive bottles of wine. I didn't even know I liked Portuguese food until I ate here. Cute bar too, and a good place to watch basketball!

We routinely have our holiday party here as it is convenient and reasonable priced per person. I always order the black bean soup as a starter as it is really good. I am also a big fan of the paella. The sangria is top notch and they host a lot of holiday parties. If you are looking to have a large party down neck, this is a great choice.

The best local Portuguese restaurant and bar outside of Newark. Always tasty favorites and specials. My favorite red sangria. Love the special grilled swordfish with tomato and mozzarella. Sandra knows her regulars and goes out of her way to ensure great service and Paul the owner will always make sure your meal is to your liking.

Went today for lunch because I've heard great things about the food. Sat at the bar, the worst part was when the bartender grabbed the garbage can to empty the recycables into a machine..she touched the bottom of the garbage can and never washed her hands after. She then made someone's cappuccino and drink and touched the rims of their cups. She also dropped of the sangria clean pitchers on the floor and picked it up and put it right next to the clean ones. The food was good but my rice was cold. I've had comparable take out here in Elizabeth. I wouldn't go back. I tipped her $10 for a $40 meal and she didn't even say that you. She took my money and never even said goodbye.

Cooking on a stone. Order steak, tuna, or shrimp, and they bring you a stone, which must be heated to 400 or 500 degrees (maybe more) and you cut your tuna (which we ordered) to your size specification, grease up the stone with oil or butter and cook the meat to your specifications. I have never encounter this before. Cooking smoke fills the room. But the stone cooking is just one item out of hundreds on the menu. A note to the wise, order less than half of what you think you might eat. The neighborhood where this resteraunt is located reminded me of the polyglot populations, populated by various legal immigrant Europeans after World War II.
