Things to do in Egilsstadir
We chose to have pizza, but there were many options to choose from, a lot of nice fish dishes. The knives need sharpening for cutting the pizza.
Whilst slightly expensive, we all enjoyed the buffet meal here (there was a discount for those with children under 12). Many choices of meat, fish and veg to keep everyone in our family happy. The desert was also very good with many options.
The restaurant is open May 15 - September 15 and on other times upon request. We offer food from local ingredients sourced in the region and cooked in our kitchen. All our bread, cakes and cookies are homemade as well. We pride ourselves on the authentici
Dining at The Wilderness Center is a really special experience. The cozy dining rooms are immaculately restored and decorated with historical artifacts, cutlery and crockery. I have dined here many times and the food is always excellent - freshly baked bread, hot mushroom soup, local free range lamb meat, delicious salmon fillets, locally grown potatoes and rhubarb all prepared in a really authentic home-style way. The kitchen is in the same room as one of the dining rooms, and it is always nice to be able to chat with the chef between courses. Five stars, quite unlike anything else in Iceland.

In the heart of Egilsstadir situated in Hótel Valaskjálf. Glóð Steikhús offers upscale cocktails, a delicious menu and a nice atmosphere. Vegatarian friendly.
We had a long day of travelling and were excited to get to the hotel and have a bite to eat. We got to the restaurant....they did have one group of about 8 people (so I respect they were focusing on the group), other than that..not busy..HOWEVER we waited for 35-40 minutes before EVEN BEING ACKNOWLEDGED With menus....so we gave them the benefit of the doubt after waiting so long for menus, but then continued to wait another 35 minutes (and not even being served water!!)..we left.. Literally the worst Iceland restaurant experience.

Our tour bus had stopped for lunch and shopping. We were hungry and the direction we took brought us to the hotel. After reviewing the menu l could not make up my mind so I order 2 small meals. Lobster and Cod. This was the best lobster and cod I have ever had. Yes it was pricey but it was wonderful and the beer was great. I forgot what my wife and niece had so I cannot comment on there selections.

Good "lax i balsamic" (salmon) - but every restaurant we ate at in Iceland had good fish. Wife enjoyed the Tandoori chicken, as did others in our group. Inexpensive.

Klausturkaffi is located in the former home of the writer Gunnar Gunnarsson. It is a mansion built in 1939 and donated to the Icelandic nation in 1948. Now a cultural centre in memory of the writer. Opening hours of the restaurant are: May&Sep. 11:00-17:0
Klausturkaffi is a restaurant in an very scenic farmhouse a short drive from Hengifoss waterfall. The farmhouse is built on a historical site, where a 1600 century monastery stood and where it's ruins have newly been excavated. The restaurant serves local food and cakes, prepared on site. Great food and cakes so if you're driving to see the Hengifoss waterfall or just around the "lake" to look for the famous worm, you really should make a stop there.Yes, and take a look at the monastery ruins!
