Writers and poets have long flourished in arts-oriented Cuenca, the country's third-largest city and the capital of the Azuay province. In our travels through South America, now in our 7th months, the most memorable experiences have been walking into the proverbial "hole in the wall" restaurant and be met with a myriad of delightful flavors packed with focused and friendly attention. This was the case with Quo Vadis. Within the intimacy of their 4 tables, we were greeted, served, informed, fed, and parted in the most nourishing and authentic way. The beef with mushrooms and truffles was superb as it was the pasta carbonara. We could taste the freshness of their ingredients in every bite! We tasted the red pepper jam and we just had to buy a jar to take home! But it was the intimacy of the staff and chef around our table that brought it all together and created a unique experience.

Four of went there for lunch. Three had the daily lunch special and one ordered from the menu. The lunch special included a bowl of very tasty soup followed by the main course of a steak plate with salad & good fries. Then for desert we were served a cup of fresh fruits. Included was a glass of fresh fruit juice. The service was professional, the presentation nice and the ambiance of the restaurant very pleasant. This was all topped by an extremely reasonable price for the quality & tastiness of the food. We left the restaurant extremely contented & recommend it highly.

Conveniently located downstairs from our AirBnB, we wanted to love this place. Fresh fruit juice great. Beautifully made coffee nowhere near hot, and when we complained, nothing. Enjoyed the food: perfect spring omelette and pancakes were Swedish style, light and fluffy. But breakfast is about coffee, and this is a cafe. Our first meal (breakfast) in Cuenca. Hope it gets better.Sorry about the coffee. Shouldnât have happened. Our waiter wanted to change it for you but you had already drunk it completely when you complained!

We were staying in the area and decided to check out Sucre Sale for breakfast. After enjoying tasty food all over Cuenca, this place was a disappointment. Prices were comparable to all other cafes offering âAmerican-styleâ breakfasts, but the juice was all separated and tasteless, bread was a bit dry and not fresh tasting, tigrillo I ordered came in big chucks, covered with an overcooked egg.. Coffee was just as unimpressive as everything else. Location, interior and service are great, but their food is definitely below average. I would return for a drink on Tuesday night when they have nice Jazz jam, but I would not come back for breakfast.

I go here fairly often, usually for lunch. The daily menu is usually good, though not exceptional. A la carts items can be pricey for Cuenca, but are typically better. Predictably good European food.

The restaurant located in our central patio takes us to a gourmet world where the service and attention are its main characteristics; on the menu we can find a variety of Italian courses apart from the most exquisite international wine selection, having a
We booked this hotel with the understanding that parking is included. What we didn't expect was that the car park is a block away from the hotel and stopping outside the hotel, to check in, almost impossible, due to the heavy traffic and vigilant wardens. Entering the hotel is striking, as you see the fabulous courtyard in all its glory, but that's as good as it gets. Checking in was fine but our room was disappointing, to say the least. Most rooms do not have an outside facing window, with the windows overlooking the courtyard, with a corridor outside the widow. This affords no privacy, so you need to draw the curtain if you don't want passing people looking in. Rather ominously, there was a note inside the room to say that earplugs were available in reception. Other than that, the room was reasonably comfortable, if on the small side. Our sleep quality was poor, as noise disturbance was intrusive. It was so bad that we asked to change rooms the next morning and were allocated a room on the top floor, with an outside window. This room was not as well furnished but it was quieter and had natural light. Breakfast was included but not very good. The poor state of the crockery and cutlery said it all, not to mention the poor service. We wanted to go into the countryside on the Sunday, only to have great difficulty getting someone to open the car park. Later we were informed that the car park is closed on Sundays. Departing early the next morning was also a lot of bother.

Mediterráneo, an Italian oasis in Ecuador, offers a rich letter in history and big gastronomic traditions, in an ambient hot weather and welcoming. Our pizzas are prepared in firewood oven, in a handmade way to the pure Italian style. Mediterrano, "Italia
I ordered a quattro stagioni pizza. My friend specified I wanted the crust crispy. I have to say the toppings were really generous, flavorful and satisfying. However, the crust was limp, not at all close to crispy. It could be my friend's Spanish is not quite as good as she thinks or the waiter forgot to pass it on to the kitchen staff. I did enjoy the pizza, but it was not one of the best in Cuenca. One friend ordered spaghetti carbonara. It looked un-decorated. Though he said it was tasty, he regretted not ordering something else. The other friend had some sort of a salad that was brimming with toppings. It looked incredible and a taste testing proved it was.

A lovely view and a formal dining room provide the perfect setting for a business dinner or nice family gathering. Service is a bit too impersonal, with no menu suggestions or discussion of the offerings, but they don't miss a beat when it comes to detail and timing. The food is excellent if not a tad reminiscent of a fine restaurant in the 1980's....not cutting edge or innovative, but just good, quality offerings. I would not necessarilly suggest this for a romantic dinner as the dining room is buzzing with children crying, business meetings, and in one case, a child banging on the piano in the bar where neither the parents nor staff corrected the behavior to the grimace of other guests. The bar however is cozy with dark wood and a great selection of cocktails as well as liquors and would be the perfect spot for a romantic after dinner drink. Beautifully done, high end tapestry's and great attention to detail. Dear MegoreillyGood afternoonI appreciate your comments about our hotel. It makes us proud to meet the needs of our customers in the best way we can. If you are going to return to our town, do not hesitate to call us.Best RegardsFlavio

Excellent grilled salmon, fried pork ribs, seabass following well-made cocktails and octopus as our appetizer. Our chocolate desserts were exceptional. We enjoyed the food so much that we asked the waiter to give our compliments to the chef. Instead the waiter actually brought the chef to our table to receive our heartfelt compliments. We sat at a window table with a river view.
