We go here from time to time, because the restaurant is nice and atmospheric - very Italian style. The boss is very friendly and always makes something possible and the staff is mostly also very friendly, but could pick up on speed. The food is - guess what - Italian and do not expect high end cuisine. We are talking about a chain. Just the same, what I really appreciate is the extra kids menue, which makes it really easy for them to chose their food and also makes them try different things. For grown ups they have really improved their choice for vegetarians, which is extremely rare in France, the country of meat craziness.... We very much enjoy the vegetarian pasta dishes and the very fair price/ service ratio. To sum it up: a nice, child & vegetarian friendly place. Not easy to find in this area. In most restaurants kids can only chose from ham/ frites, burger/ frites, nuggets/ frites or other very unhealthy fast food options. For vegetarians the phantasy of most chefs ends at "Omelette/ frites"... Very sad...

I must say I was a little disapointed. The lasagna was good but not great. The antipasti plate was good and everyone else's meals seemed to be better than mine. The feeling of the place is very authentically Italian. The focaccia was very good but we only had a few bits with our main meal and starter. Too bad there wasn't more. If visiting keep in mind that sitting by the door can be drafty and reservations are almost mandatory. Like I said in the title: I'll go back... but next time I'll try the pizza.

Business trip to Chalon sur Soene for myself and 2 colleagues, googled best restaurants in town and there seemed to be a cluster in Rue de Strasbourg so we headed in that way and found Le Bourgogne. Very attentive and helpful staff, my French is at best inadequate. The food was superb and good value compared to the quality and presentation. Finished of with great cheeses and delicious deserts.

I have been two times at Les Canailles and have enjoyed both times. The service is very friendly and (for foreigners important) English menues are available and also the waitresses speak really good English and are using it!2 different type of 3-course menues are available (23⬠and 33â¬) and you can also mix between (28â¬) which really provides a lot of options.Nice selection of wines as well.A good place and a nice environment as well!

This adorable small restaurant deserves a super high rating. Chef Montgillard is very creative with his dishes! Our waiter, Antonio, waited on us hand and foot. He was as handsome as he was nice and put up with my trying to practice my French. Writing this is making me hungry for Le Clown's gourmet delights!

Le Bistrot is located in 31 r. de Strasbourg, in the old town of Chalon-sur-Saône. The red coloured facade, an interesting menu and a pleasant atmosphere got our attention. And we were not dissapointed, neither by the service nor the food. And luckily, the street is one of far too few streets in the towns and villages in Bourgogne without busy, polluting cars. What a relief... So there we were seated in the terrasse, under protecting parasols, enjoying a refreshing aperitif. A menu was available for 26 Euro, with 4-5 choices for starters, main dishes and desserts. The cuisine is balancing fresh ingredients, delicate presentation with a touch of originality, and - not to be forgotten - served by a very pleasant owner. And everything can be accompanied by outstanding local (among others) vine. The dessert topped the meal, balancing sweetness, freshness and size in an amazing way. The coffee may reserve you a surprise. Enjoy!

Based in the main "eating mile" on the island of Chalon-sur-Saône, this restaurant really stands out for me. It has been here for a little more than a year and already when reserving a table and asking about their vegetarian choice, I was impressed by the quick and cheerful answers the lady gave me.On arrival she still knew who we were and kept serving us very well with a super friendly smile. The salads we got were really excellent and creative. Do have a look into the desert menu, there are some delicious surprises. My favourite was the figues in honey. My wife had a "Café Gourmand" with basile ice cream. It was a real great surprise and very tasty! The prices are very fair. Take some time into account when coming here, as everything is prepared fresh and will not arrive on the table within 5 minutes. We will be back - for sure!!

This is an increasingly popular restaurant, with an unusual name and under new management since late 2016, is directly benefitting from the talents of a stellar chef, Thomas Panier who has worked in restaurants like La Brasserie Saint Laurent in Lausanne, Switzerland, and elsewhere in France, also. The emphasis is on traditional food (no nouvelle cuisine here) and generous portions in a pleasant, cosy atmosphere. The dining room is on the ground floor, and there is also a vaulted cellar with tables for up to 20 people. For the entrees we had the âduo saladâ with goat cheese, toasts and raw vegetables; the main dishes were roast beef with roquefort or époisse cheese sauce, and a skewer of prawns flambé with whiskey. Both the Tarte Tatin and lemon meringue pie were excellent followed by gourmet coffee. The cheese platter with cream was very tempting indeed, but we managed to resist. In summary, this was a most enjoyable culinary experience, at reasonable prices. We plan to return to sample some of the other dishes!

We travel through France every year from Scotland. We normally stop overnight in Dijon or Beaune. This year we decided a change was needed and chose Chalons sur Soane. We booked Les Gourmands Disent from Scotland based on T.A. reviews. A decision we did not regret! We arrived in Chalons in the afternoon and went to find the restaurant. This was simple and we spoke with the owner, a lovely woman, and confirmed our reservation. That night we arrived to find a busy restaurant and the owner came straight over to us and gave us a nice outside table. The menu consisted of three choices of each course and a variety of 'menus', the most expensive of which was â¬37 for four courses. We started with a glass of cremant which had infused black currants in it. A good start! We were suggested a great red wine which was served in a way I've not seen before, which was interesting and the owner, who did not speak much English, drew us a diagram of what she was doing and why. If you are curious about this, you'll just have to go and find out what I am talking about! The food was delicious. Not huge portions but certainly not frugal either. We both had a starter and a main course each and then shared a cheese serving and a sweet. All courses were exquisitely presented. Although we did not have it, the champignons sweet was a work of art. Again, if you are curious about a mushroom sweet, go there! The hostess worked tirelessly to keep everyone happy, especially as a thunder storm forced everyone to decant inside the restaurant. It must have been very frustrating for her and the chef.We would highly recommend Les Gourmands Disent. They got everything right except, of course, the weather!
