Not so easy to go there. But if you go you'll find a lot of people, some local, trying to eat the typical dishes. Try rojoes or Vitela or Cabrito. Very nice surprise. It is not really a restaurant. It is like eating in someones house.

A lovely drive down the Douro Vslley saw us (sans kids) looking for somewhere to eat. Lots of options but we settled on Entre os Rios only to discover it was a public holiday and most places werenât serving food. Then we found Cafe Finanha by the roadside. There was a reassuring burble if noise from outside and it was nearly full, but space for us. Menu in Portuguese but the waitress explained it and suggested the octopus and the pork. Starter of sausage was interesting. Half an octopus was huge but judged tasty. Too much for my partner to finish. The pork was huge but so tender and somehow I forced it and the accompaniments down. Interesting use of pickled vegetables in the dish! Bit of a surprise when buying into the carrot to find that!Puds has to be done. Choc mousse was surprisingly light and very tasty. The cake of the day was like a creme caramel, but not quite the same. We left as two happy punters. About â¬20 per head for 3 courses. Well worth it for what we had!

I've been here a couple times and tried pizzas and other food and although they advertise themselves as a pizzeria, the best food isn't the pizzas.I find the pizzas to be very "doughie" and you get stuffed very fast. The rest of the food is very nice and they have some gorgeous and very tasty meat (steak) that I'd definitely recommend over the pizzas. The staff is nice and helpful and the service is reasonable fast.

This restaurant has a fantastic veal in the oven along with excellent potatoes and rice. The veal in this region is soft and tasty, Alvarenga is the capital and makes a triangle with Arouca and Castelo de Paiva. The animals are of Arouquesa breed, considered as an excellent meat.O Geraldo is the best restaurant to eat meat in castelo de Paiva.

As soon as I entered my memory took me back to my great-aunt's house at dinner time! This is the type of place where you get the no fuss real homemade type of Portuguese food. As you might expect from this kind of restaurant the portions are generous. Even their fries are hand-cut, no frozen fries here! Family type of restaurant, I'd highly recomment it to anyone in the area.

How lucky to have found this place.'O Cantinho' may not be a trendy, stylish place, but once you have experienced its magic, you'll go back...Our experience after many stays in (whole) Portugal has learnt us to look for typical places where you meet the locals.Resto or taverne, or café, as long as it is clean and feels comfortable. And what's on the plate is much more important than decoration and view. Sofia and Vitor -young parents and proud owners- instantly make you feel at home and serve fab. Portuguese food. Both quality AND quantity is imported to them, cause the portions are huge!Fish or meat, and depending of what's in the house, it's all prepared with care and one feels that here they know how food should be prepared, and served...Fried, cooked or grilled, perfection is ever so close, even in simple dishes, and so is the presentation. And the price? Unbelievable! In all honesty, we would pay much more than double this price in Belgium and the chance of having such a friendly 'from the heart' service...none existant. What could be more enjoyable? We went 4 nights in a row and payed between â¬32.10 and â¬36.20 for 3 adults!?'Entradas'**, main dish and drinks. Desserts...on occasion...if we found space...**In Portugal it is a tradition to put some dishes on the table, like for starters. These 'Entradas' could be olives, bread and butter, ham, cheese or sometimes all of it...If you don't want any of these, just ignore or give it back and it will not be on your bill. But when like in 'O Cantinho' it only costs ab. â¬4 for 3p, why not enjoy a bit of starters?Drinks are cheap and having a beer for only â¬0.90 and coffee for â¬0.60 add's up to the dream, while it is quite amazing to have an exellent dish of fish or meat for a price lower th. â¬8.And we also met some wonderful local people. They all were proud to welcome us as if it was there own place. It felt so good; it felt like home! This experience had to be shared and in fact, it is a shame that this fantastic place with adorable owners and guests had no feedback on Tripadvisor yet.We have tried 1-3* restaurants in the past, and it never gave the satisfaction that we had now...

Fabulous meal, big portions. Service and staff are fab. Great views of the river Douro. You can't see the restaurant from the road as it's slightly down towards the river. It's one of the only restaurants in the area with a full menu in English. The fish and steaks are amazing. Highly recommend.

This is not a fashion, trendy or classy restaurant but the food and wine are absolutely amazing. With a gorgeous view over the river Arda, you can have a full dish or just eat some traditional portuguese bites and "tapas" like Pica-Pau, Cod Salad, Stewed Gizzards and many more. The staff is nice and the service is quite fast. The price is absolutely ridiculous for the amount of food they bring to the table!Definitely recommend!

There is no menu. The food is provided, in our case, absolutely delicious steaks, straight from the original kitchen. (You enter the restaurant through the kitchen which is a nice touch.) The wine is also local and bottles are replaced when emptied. We had a table for four of us on the covered terrace with lovely views. Great conversations with the owner. A memorable evening of our stay here. Best steak ever.If you are not familiar with the area, go by taxi. So much easier.
