Very happy with the meal here. Vey food fish, good value overall. Appreciate th lack of price gouging on the wine in Dutch restaurants generally. Haarlem has some good restaurant choices, and I would recommend staying there and just taking a day trip into Amsterdam, avoiding as far as possible the tourist crush in the later.

This is a hidden gem! The restaurant is housed in the fascinating and spectacular 100 year old country estate hotel Duin en Kruidberg and is located in Santpoort, about 6 kilometers north of Haarlem. So you do have to travel to get there, but it is worth it. As mentioned on its website, De Vrienden van Jacob have had 1 Michelin star since 2006, and this star is more than deserved. The head chef, Alain Alders, visits each and every guest at the start of their dinner to personalize their experience. We elected a 5 course surprise menu with wine selections. It was absolutely superb, refined, delicious....The wine selections were great and for North Americans different from what they get served in the USA or Canada. Also, the price-tag for a 5 course dinner was favorable (around 90 Euros), certainly compared to what people pay in North America. In short, a restaurant that definitely is worthwhile visiting and you can decide to sleep at the hotel to get that little extra heavenly experience. By the way, reservations are required, but if you are unable to make a reservation online, it is worth calling the restaurant directly. Haarlem is Amsterdam without the tons of people, bicyclists, and noise. 20 minutes by train.This little Irish pub is a blast. Louisa and Shurd were a blast and made it so much fun.Stop in. youâll be glad you did.

Dutch website Heerlijk.nl offered a 5 course dinner for an excellent price. We were very impressed by the quality of food, excellent service but most of all by the inspired, unexpected and daring combination of ingredients that worked brilliantly for every course. I had lost my cell phone today and was feeling miserable. Three hours later, I found it and felt wonderful. Time to celebrate with a great dinner. We went in for the ribs but they were sold out. Let's try the steak? The beer, a light Guiness, hit the spot. The steak was perfectly cooked, medium rare and the sauce made it sing. Good fries and veggies and my spirits rose. Leisurely service worked out nicely. AOK all round.

What makes this restaurant excellent is the consistency in customer service, quality of food and overall value you get. I have been to the restaurant many times and I have brought many of my customers and visiting colleagues from overseas. All of them have been impressed. So yes, I have no hesitation recommending this restaurant to anyone who loves a good steak dinner, good wine selection, and professional yet warm customer service.

We had a wonderful night: the food was absolutely delicious and the wine pairing was good too. However, we were dissapointed that while we had a set menu with a set price incl a wine pairing arrangement, the night ended with an extremely high bill: pricewise similar to a ** Michelin star dinner. While we had some surplus items that were mentioned as such (the truffel on the meat dish and an appetizer), we did not get a heads up on the surplus on the dessert wine (we were under the assumption this would be included in the wine pairing menu we were on) and other 'unmentioned' surplus items. Should we have paid more attention? Maybe.But it does leave us with an unsettled feeling and eventhough we did enjoy the night, the food, service and ambiance: the unfortunate conslusion is we won't be back.

We ate here one night and my husband had fish, and I had the Moussaka. The fish was fresh and delicious but my Moussaka was just average. Service was not that great. Maybe it was just a bad night.

Enjoyed a superb fish meal at this excellent restaurant that has superb 180 degree views of the harbour & sea area. Outstanding cod and terrific service team. Really great and attentive service would definitely recommend.
