Things to do in Alijo
A restaurant with both Italian and Portuguese foods
We'd been eating Portuguese dinners for nearly a week, mostly at higher end restaurants, and were looking for something a little lighter. Pizzeria Margherita has a wood-burning pizza oven, someone who knows a good pizza crust, quality ingredients, and a knowledgeable person manning the oven. It all added up to superb pizza and an enjoyable evening for the four of us. Staff is friendly, courteous and attentive and fluent enough in English to get you through the menu even if, like us, your knowledge of Portuguese is almost non-existent.,
The staff of this restaurant is very friendly, funny and fast.It has a small esplanade outside where you can enjoy your meal. The food was good.No wifi.No private parking. You can park on the street if you find a spot.
Great little restaurants where the local people in the small village meet. Went early and during the next hour the place filled up with local people. The lady who welcomed us was also the waiter and the chef. She was great!! We had olives, bread, cheese, ham and a typical Portuguese sausage for starters. For mains we had Naco de Vitela, which is a really great steak, served with grilled potatoes and a sauce. We also had a tasty salad on the side. Had the house red wine, which was good. Finished off with desserts and coffee. Ended up paying 44 euros. Cheap for the amount of food we got.

This was a marvelous, authentic Portugese meal served in the middle of a 1,000 acre vineyard. The owner of the vineyard (6th generation) made comments between various courses, and was hilarious. The food was excellent, and well presented and served by a young serving crew. They also provided dancing entertainment, along with a small accordion and guitar duet. The wine flowed quite readily, and a good time was had by all.
Great value. The freshest salad, home made chips, a whole chicken for two and rice. Home made deserts, a bottle of vinho verde and a beer. Change from 20euro. Family run and full of locals devouring chickens cooked in the open kitchen. They do a full range of meats but chicken is the thing!

Let's start by saying that we went there because of the good reviews here on TripAdvisor. They do not represent what we found when we got there. There is no menu. They said what they had which was pretty much fast food or plates that were already ready they just needed heating up. The staff was friendly. It was not good food. It was cheap, though. There are better options in Alijó.

This restaurant hit the spot - we fancied something simple and ordered grilled meats, fries and a lovely salad. The portion sizes were extremely generous, and the food was delicious. Service was absolutely charming - we speak no Portuguese, the waitress spoke no English but we managed, helped by Google Translate! We ordered water, two half-bottles of wine, two mains, fries for two, a salad for two, a pudding, two coffees and two ports and spent 32 Euros - really. The Champions' League final was on TV and we were able to keep an eye on the game without it intruding. We ate early and the restaurant was soon full of locals and other tourists. I hope they continue to do well.

The philosophy of Cozinha da Clara is to serve local Portuguese cuisine at its best â simplicity is the key. We also want to include a touch of the familyâs heritage, by adding some of my grandmother, Claireâs favourite recipes. Executive chef, Pedro Card
We were very happy with every aspect of our experience at this restaurant. The patio seating is pleasant with picturesque views of the Douro River and opposing hillside vineyard. It wasn't too hot when we visited, but if you tend to get warm indoor seating looked nice as well. The food was wonderful. Very fresh, with nice combinations and mixtures of flavors. I ordered the risotto, which was wonderful, but not filling enough so I also ordered the octopus. The food was a mixture of traditional and contemporary Portuguese cuisine. We arrived early in our rental car, as there are not a lot of spots in the small parking lot, although I imagine you could park on the street. I saw that some people walked from the cruise ship parked close by.Thank you for the kind words and I am pleased you enjoyed your meal. Parking during the harvest is difficult and we are trying to improve this. We dont get many people from the boats coming to see us as they tend to be all inclusive.
