Our friend Teddy, our host and local guide, was driving us from Sofia to her hometown of Veliko Turnovo. I had thought to bring food along so we wouldn't have to stop, but Teddy had it all worked out. We would have dinner and do some shopping for meat at a place along the way. That turned out to be Dobrevski, and we enjoyed a hearty and sustaining meal there. You go up to the grill and pick out what you want - in my case I got spare ribs - and then you get various sides, including a bowl of fresh grilled beans. Like I said, very hearty food. And their butcher across the way is very impressive as well.
This is a restaurant situated in the very centre of the city, next to the theatre, between the old church and the history museum dedicated to the victorious Pleven siege during the Russian-Turkish Liberation war in the end of 18th century. The building is owned by the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox church and that's why it was named "Paraklisa" (The Chapel). The venue was opened years ago, but it changed tenant/owner and its chef recently therefore we decided to visit it and we have been amazed how good it is! The club-restaurant is medium in size - it has around 80 seats inside and around 30 seats in its summer garden which is not working right now, because of the season. The menu list is not very long, but fortunately offers a great variety of food and tasty dishes that you can't find in other restaurants in Pleven. You could order there also more traditional dishes like steaks, fish, pizza, pasta, risotto, different desserts. I recommend you to try the salad with four types of cheese (Quattro Formaggi), their Caesar salad, their pork loin with Boletus edulis, the chicken fillet with curry and honey... The restaurant offers also a great variety of alcohol (I was impressed by their wine list) and bottled and local draught beer. The staff is kind and working really fast, the prices are average for Pleven (the salads are between 4,00 and 7,00 BGN (2,00-3,50 EUR), the main courses are between 8,00 and 20,00 BGN (4,00-10,00 EUR)), you could pay in cash or by the most commonly used credit/debit cards. There is a parking next to the restaurant (paid during the day, free in the evening), but the good central location of the restaurant allows you to come by feet even if you are sight-seeing in the centre of the city or staying in some of the centrally located hotels. Reservations are accepted.
The restaurant is situated in a traditional old house and the interior is in harmony with it. The second floor is accessible by an outside staircase. There is a bathroom on the first floor only. The plates are made of decorated ceramics typical for the region. Food is delicious with big servings. Service is good. I would definitely reccommend.

The food (typical Bulgarian menu) is excellent, some of it is grown/made right on location. It is by the river and has plenty of diversions (including a short zip line) for kids to play and entertain themselves. Despite being kid-friendly keep in mind that they do not have baby chairs if you are with little ones. Service is ok - in this region of Bulgaria you will not get the care and attention one gets used to in more service-oriented cultures, but the waiter was polite, the food arrived quickly - we had no complaints. It's a good place to stop by for a meal if going by.

I've visited Kanape numerous times and I've had a good experience overall. However, tonight I had a horrible experience for the second time. A few months ago, there was a bug in my salad which I didn't get mad about (a discount or a compensation wasn't suggested). Today, there was a problem with my salad and I sent it back. I didn't want a new one and instead, I ordered a portion of zucchini which was half the price of the salad. At the end of the evening, we got the bill and I noticed that the salad is on it, the zucchini is not. I asked the manager why is that, considering I didn't eat the salad + the zucchini is cheaper. Why on earth am I paying more for something I didn't eat?! He was very rude and told me that he can't do anything about it. I am a waitress and I am a regular customer. I find this unacceptable and I believe that this "manager" doesn't have any experience or proper training.

This restaurant, recommended by our hotel, is situated on a nice square (newly brick cobbled) on the edge of the old traditional part of Lovech and a few steps from the very touristy covered bridge, but we found the food rather disappointing. We ordered a Shepherds salad to start and received a very small and unimpressive salad selection with no boiled egg in it (and this salad has included egg in every other restaurant in Bulgaria we have eaten in). If there is one thing Bulgarian restaurants normally excel in, it is huge and beautifully constructed fresh salads, so it was disappointing to be served such a feeble salad.I had a very sloppy Sach dish which tasted a lot better than it looked and my partner ordered fish which came as a rather small portion. The waitress was very inattentive and we were not moved to tip much at all.All in all, we weren't impressed and wouldn't eat there again.
