Find out what Eastern European restaurants to try in Gdansk. One of Poland’s most beautiful cities, Gdansk, on the Baltic Sea, has played major roles in history, especially in the 20th-century. It was the 1939 flash point of World War II, and then in 1980, the birthplace of the Solidarnosc labor movement, ushering the end of Communist domination in Eastern Europe. Gdansk’s Old Town, painstakingly reconstructed to its Hanseatic League glory after being leveled in World War II, is a highlight. The 14th-century Town Hall houses the city’s historical museum.

WE ate here a couple of times having taken the recommendation from a TA Forum. The restaurant is directly opposite the Ibis hotel, inside it is modern and spacious.. The first encouraging thing you notice is that it gets quite busy, even though it is outside of the main Old Town, and it is mostly Polish people that eat there.Food choices are very good and portion sized tend to be on the large size. Prices are mid-range for the city. The only thing to be careful of on the menu is that some of the English descriptions aren't accurate, so its always a good idea to double check what will arrive as you order. For example, the "beef tenderloin" is a piece of sirloin, the "pork chop" is a pork schnitzel, and "bolied potatoes" will come as a portion of mashed potatoes. That said, everything we had on our two visits was excellent. That included taking a portion of Pierogi as a starter between the two of us, the "beef tenderloin" and "Pork chop" (see notes above) and the burgerr.House wine is reasonable at 55 Zloty a bottle, and the place boasts a selection of 140 vodkas, which can be sampled on a taster board. At the end of our meal we also were given a complimentary shot of plum brandy.Service is multilingual and efficient. An all round excellent choice and dining experience.

We were lucky to get a seat in this restaurant as several of their tables were occupied by a party from a local office. While we were there several others came but had to leave as all tables were full. Always a good sign and having had our meal I can see why. We had goulash with red cabbage and a flat baked potato- the name and descriptions does not do justice to the taste which was really wonderful The other person had a wild boar casserole with vegetables- the wild boar was described as better than any steak they had eaten for a long timeThis was followed by an apple tart with pomegranate and blueberries The other desert was a chocolate tart with strawberries and cream. Both were that rare combination of taste, appearance and level of luxury which can hard to get the balance right. To finish they served a Honey and Vodka liqueur- truly a drink to savour and this brought the meal to a memorable close

We only stopped for drinks and they were great. I nad cydr sopocki, my husband craft beer and our daughter had iced coffee. This was not specified that coffee was with milk. It should be clearly stated in the menu. Lots of people don't drink cow's milk. She drank it but was a bit dissappointed. It was too sweet as well.

In our 'Familia bistro' you can find a pinch of Vilnius, Poland and the Eastern Borderlands. We try to present dishes just like in home: simple, fresh and without artificial additives. Kibiny(Big Baked Dumplings), Manta(Big Steamed Dumplings), potato cake
I tried three different veggie dumplings(the steamed ones), the one with spinach and feta cheese was my favourite. The one with potato was a bit tasteless. Huge portions, two dumplings would have been enough(and i was hungry!). Service was good as well. Nice to try something different from burger, pizza, pasta etc.

GdaÅsk is absolutely full of restaurants and cafes.... spoilt for choice! So, we were very lucky to walk along the river and stumble across this gem. Great traditional polish food, beer, vodka and superb service... staff are great.Certainly would recommend the pork schnitzel.Lovely inside, and if the weather is good sit outside for a great view of the river. So, if you are planning a trip to GdaÅsk make sure you visit these guys.

A hip - and thus very popular - place. Nice modern decor, great lounge music and above all, best pierogi/pelmeni youâll find. You can watch them make the food through a window to the kitchen and you can get cooking classes, too.We didnât have a booking around 15:00, and luckily there were a few tables free. I recommend to book, as this place probably gets more and more popular as people travel to Gdansk.I had the wild board/mushroom pierogi, while my wife had the chorizo/dill and we shared a bowl of kimchi and another of horseradish. I cannot say Iâve had better pierogi anywhere..The wait wasnât as long as they let us believe (maybe 15min instead of 30), the waitress was a professional smart young lady who recommended me an excellent local craft IPA to go with my food. The portions are big and even though some mugheads complain about it, I appreciate more bang for the buck, so this place gets a solid 5 stars.PS.In case youâve never had pierogi before, my personal recommendation is to start with the meaty ones, because fish/fruit/veg options are maybe little bit more of an acquired taste.

Delicious food together with an outstanding view of Motlawa River. Our cuisine is inspired by polish taste with a bit of modern twist.
Pietr was the most amazing host. He explained things to us and recommended various dishes according to our requirements. The water melon and feta cheese salad was so fresh and absolutely delicious. We had wild boar (omg) with glazed beetroot and noodles ( gnocchi like dumplings ) The whole meal was stunning and the waiter was perfect. Best meal weâve had in GdaÅsk by a mile

The restaurant was very busy when we went (not surprising given how good the food is), but when we were put on the waiting list the hostess would not give us an approximate wait time...something that is pretty standard practice at every other restaurant I've been to. We ended up having to order the perogi to go as we had plans later that evening that we would have missed. The perogi were delicious and the flavours are quite inventive, just a shame we couldn't experience dining in. I suggest making a reservation.

At a place where cultural and culinary diversity created a new quality, which is a real richness of this region, the Motlava restaurant offers Polish cuisine - flavors that have permanently entered our tables!
We had a strange experience booking this restaurant. We had wandered along the river to make a booking for that evening as we knew this was a popular spot. The waitress informed us they were fully booked for the evening so we left disappointed. However, when we went back in to request a table for the following lunch time the waiter informed us there was a table free in the main body of the restaurant that evening. When we arrived later we were shown to a table in a separate area to the left of the restaurant, there were several free tables in there. I asked to sit in the main area but this request was declined. This area was partitioned of with sliding doors, lacked any sort of atmosphere and was actually very cold. After complaining several times about the temperature my wife was told we could move into the main area, where a table had been free throughout! All quite bizarre really. The main area had a nice atmosphere and was warm. After all of this the food was actually very good.I had a huge pork knuckle with very crispy skin which I really enjoyed and my wife had very tender beef cheeks.Wine wasnât great.Thank you very much for expressing your opinion. Any information is extremely important to us and helps us improve our service. Best regards, Motlava team.

Right in old town, a bit hidden, but not difficult to find.We were early and received excellent service as one of the first guests.Starter was a great and main even better. Received, on house, inbetween meals, some small bites. These were really tasty. With these extra bites, the total portions became a bit too much. There was no room for dessert. That being said, that is perhaps not a bad thing. This is close to a 5star, def a 4.5, but since we canât give that, we ended up with 4 because of wait when other guests arrived and slighty large portions.Great pricing. Please try the place!
